Avensis T22 ~ Engine Swap Potential?

Hey

There's a great thread on pistonheads about engine transplants at the moment, with modern motors going in older cars

It got me thinking, what engines fit in the MK1 with minimal drama? It'd be great to turn my sr into a modern diesel or brisk little number when it's retired from daily duties

What modern toyota stuff, if any, fits?

Personally I think you have one of Toyota's better engines.

Saying that the Direct injection 2 litre vvti would be a suitable upgrade. You will need the ECU's, wiring loom and mounts, plus the exhaust from the front to the middle. I thing you will also need the transmission too. I forgot to mention the engine mounts.

I would not touch the diesels.

If I could do any mod to my car is raise the gearing slightly, improve the suspension for less roll.

It is good to dream.
