Clutch Pedal Switch

I was looking at my clutch pedal tonight (as you do!) when I was trying to see where my slight squeak was coming from - and I noticed the pedal has a sort of 'tang' on the side, which is in line with a bracket with a hole in it. It looks very much like a switch or something goes in there - presumably to detect when the clutch pedal is depressed.

Question is - what RAV4 actually have a switch in the place? I'm assuming mine isn't missing and was never there anyway, but what models have them? (Mine is a 2008 2.0 VVTI XTR)

On some Toyotas (eg the Auris) one has to depress the clutch in order to start the engine - a system which is commonplace in the US and would presumably be fitted to US market Rav 4's.

Do the U.S. get manual RAVs? I thought they'd all be autos over there.

Models fitted with keyless entry/start have a clutch pedal switch as the pedal has to be depressed before the car will start.

Ahh that explains it. I forgot some RAVs have the button start!

Rav's which are fitted with cruise control usually have a clutch switch fitted - to disable cruise control when the clutch pedal is pressed.

Mine does have cruise control, and it appears to be working. Maybe it works on the brake pedal in 'newer' cars?
