Dirt under wheel arches

Just got a 2012 facelift Aygo. Just washed it and cannot believe how much salt and grime that has collated under rear wheel arches. Most cars have a plastic membrane inside wheel arch to protect metal but not on the aygo. This is sure to be first location for corrosion to appear over time.

its good that you have found this issue with the aygo as you can now

stay on top of the situation, you now shouldn't have any rust

issues in the future, maybe see if you can get some stone chip

the same colour as the wheel arches so you can give it a coat

of stone chip if you see any damaged paintwork.

Hello Chris - welcome to Toyota Owners Club.

Just shows what a regular hosing of the wheel arches can avoid...

Yes learnt my lesson many years ago with a previous car, seems to be an area of the car that many people overlook.

luckily for us that half of the rear wheel arch is plastic (part of the rear bumper). The metal part can be hosed clean, dried and painted or sprayed with under body coat/wax that prevents rust. The spray can of under body coat is easy to apply.
