Is Mass air flow cleaning advisable?

I have been wondering if cleaning the mass airflow sensor advisable? Access is easy and all I have to do is spray CRC mass air flow cleaner over the resistors to remove the dirt.

Here are the videos I have seen:

It seems that Toyota use the same design of sensor for most engines.

There is one video I won't post where the poster actually used a screw driver!

The only genuine MAF cleaning product CRC is recommended, though carburetor cleaner and electrical contact cleaner is also mentioned. Apparently brake cleaner is too abrasive!

Other videos have mentioned improvements in performance and economy.

What are your thoughts and is cleaning worth doing?

I have used 'proper' MAF cleaner spray on various MAFs, including the one in my 1.6 Valvematic Auris, and I can't honestly say I saw any improvement in performance or economy, but then none of them were particularly dirty to start off with. Equally it seemed to do no harm either, so as long as you use the recommended stuff then there's probably nothing to lose.
