Identifying drive shaft for Corolla Verso

I need to replace both drive shafts for my Vvti 1.6 2003 Verso ZZE.

But apart from main dealer parts which cost more than the value of the car I have sourced replacements. But there is no way of finding whether the inner spline which fits into the gear box has 20 or 23 splines without removing the old shaft first. In which case it’s a gamble if I have the right part.

Is there any way of identifying the correct shaft ? I have the Toyota part number .

Cheers

The OE part numbers are

43410-12660

43420-13051

But the factor has no way of identifying whether the shaft has 20 or 23 splines

Hi,

You will have to disconnect one to be sure,  beileve the 20 or 23 refers to the Transmission end and not the Axle end which is different again.

Seems you can pick them uo for around £115 from motor factors like GSF or sites like the AutoDoc, EU who do them even cheaper, though as others have said they can take some time to arrive, depending on actual stocks.

eBay has them even cheaper but no mention on the number of splines ..

Thanks,

The ones I have bought have 20 splines but I was hoping to avoid having to put the car together again if I found the gearbox had 23 spines, then re order.

No real need to change the inners as they rarely fail, remove the old inner cv boot, remove the shaft (just pulls out), clean out the cup and check for wear, fresh grease, slip the new one in and add grease

it's usually a 3 bearing design

Edit abs or non abs ?

43420-13051 comes back as a 23 inner and 26 outer

43410-12660 comes back as a 23 inner

23 spline is for the ZZE121, 20 Spline is for the ZZE122

What are the part numbers you have been supplied ?

Edit 2. 20 spline is for the automatic (5 speed automated manual ?)

Really appreciate your advice.

They have supplied me with a 20 spline which appears wrong according to Bob as I have a ZZE 121 R -FWMDW(1B) Version of variant ZZE121 (W).

It’s a 1.6 5Speed  manual.

Grateful you advise whether I return the 20 spline and request a 23 ?

many thanks,

Steve

The numbers you have been given are correct going by the model code given

the 20 spline are a different part numbers

43410-12670

43420-13061

you can cross-reference the parts on sites like autodoc, etc
