Just giving a country would be far less use to ID thieves than the current county. As @Cyker says, that probably goes back to the days of 'meets', which if they still happen are probably on Facebook where all your personal data is already compromised beyond imagination 🙂

The location field was there when I joined (March 2008) - was voluntary then and is still voluntary today. For example one can leave location blank if desired.

Conversely there are some members who give a false location within the UK, when clearly from the IP address they are in a different country. This seems to happen quite frequently with members from the US. If I come across this, I correct the profile.

Please can we return to the topic subject - auto lock.

Yes - but the IP address often still provides a location within the country, and the issue I highlighted was re non-UK members who claim to be in the UK.
