  1. Thanks Don do you mean Lindop head office? I have contacted Toyota Gb for clarification, at the end of the day if the car is  late which it appears it will be I can get my money back, or sure somebody might want to jump the queue nearer the date🤞

You should try Lindop first and give them chance then go to Toyota if you struggle.

Buy this one out, the mk4 at 3 year old is worth much more than 9500. It depends on whether u want a new car or if they give u enough equity to tempt u to a new one. Alternatively buy this one out and if in the near future u want a new one then sell it.

Mazda hybrid top trim is £23.5k on PCP ATM, this includes 1500 PCP contribution. So it's decent enough, when last check a few weeks ago it did not have the 1500 contribution. If currently own a Mazda get 500 off extra too. Screenshot_2023-10-05-15-53-05-095_com.android.chrome.thumb.jpg.d679d0c35b94be0f892b5353f036945c.jpgScreenshot_2023-10-05-15-52-48-639_com.android.chrome.thumb.jpg.a854bb27d33131b8e3bf10703e9585bc.jpg

Yaris Cross Design. Ordered July 19th for October delivery. App remained on Processing until Oct 5th when it suddenly jumped to  Car is in Derbyshire. Six hours later, at 4:55pm I received an email saying it was at the local dealer (West Wales). Collected 4pm today 9th. Could have been earlier but for the weekend and they needed to move the dash cam to the new car.  They're digging out a spare wheel which I have to collect later in the week - I know it isn't standard but I figured if I don't ask...  Shakedown drive tomorrow ahead of 500mile round trip this weekend.

Well I ordered mine 6 days ago and was told Dec, having looked at other vehicles Lexus and Hyndai tuscon decided to cancel they will but have been told they will keep my £500 deposit, the car doesn't exist its just a piece of paper their is no order number and apparently the 14 days cooling down period does not exist on the 2nd most expensive purchase most people will ever make seems odd, anyway see what they come up with before I contact Toyota Gb, any ideas 💡

I always put the minimum deposit towards a new car.  If anything goes wrong with the purchase and the dealership refuse to return the deposit, it’s better to lose £100 rather than £500.  However, I’ve only cancelled an order on one occasion and the dealer gave me my money back.

Recently tried Drive the Deal for a VW before ordering the Yaris, price was good but the T & C's worried me.

£1000 deposit for starters and you had to give your credit car details to DtD who said they would pass them onto the unknown dealer.

When I said that I was not prepared to do that, simply get the dealer to ring me and I will pay the deposit they refused saying I was the first buyer in over 20 years not to agree to their requirements.

Simply walked away.

What sane person would give their credit card details to a 3rd party to pass to an unknown supplier. If the purchase went bad what protection would you have?

I didn't have a problem with that, DTD has been trading for a long while. Credit card protection from the bank, that's what you would get.

But would you get that protection if you gave your number to a 3rd party? Surely that must be breaking some kind of rule you signed up for i.e. protect your details.

It's an individual's choice at the end of day. They are all regulated by the FCA/FSA. Have not heard of anyone got scammed via DTD.

If you're worried about that stuff like that, use a credit card and not a debit card. Credit cards have incredible levels of consumer protection - It's so consumer-biased that even if you authorized a purchase, you can later tell the credit card company it's unauthorized/fraudulent even if you entered the PIN, gave the CVV etc., and they'll reverse the charge and it becomes the burden of the other party to prove it was authorized.

(You'd then be liable for fraud in that particular case, and they will take you to the cleaners once their investigation shows it was an genuine purchase, but that's by the by).

Also, with credit cards, it's not your money so you wouldn't loose any money anyway, the bank/CCC does and they'd go after them with their army of lawyers to get it back.

This is why credit cards are the safest things to use - Debit card protections are much less strong, as are direct debit, Paypal and especially bank transfers. And if they're asking you to Weston Union something then run!

Bought 5 of our last 6 cars via brokers and in every case the broker has simply passed my details to their dealer who has contacted me and done the deal either by phone or in their premises (if the dealer happens to be local). Never given any broker my financial details and never will.

I have had 2 broker deals fall apart and in both cases it was the dealer not the broker that was incompetent. Neither deal lost me a single penny.

I will contact my Credit card company next week to check if the practice of the broker passing your details to their dealer is OK but since you are always told not to give anyone your financial details I feel sure it could mean trouble for you if things went badly wrong.

Don't see what's wrong with a Sainsbury's bag full of 50s myself.

Seriously though, what I would flat out refuse to do is give a deposit, even £100 to any dealer to ship the car across the country for me to see.

Fully refundable,yeah right.

If the car is not there to see, I will leave it.

We had a dealer round here a few years ago, not a main dealer but generally used stuff.

He fixed people up with finance very easily apparently, strangely when things were getting a bit close for comfort, there was a mysterious fire destroying the premises and stock, suspected swapped for scrap cars completely , they could have been nearly new fords or old ladas , just lumps of melted metal left.

He then disappeared from the face of the earth.

Never have read anything about him being found since, maybe he's with shergar.

That only applies IMHO to used cars. Just remember the first 3 rules of car buying and take care:

1 All salesmen are liars

2 All salesmen are liars

3 Refer to rules 1 & 2

But with a new car you are unlikely to see it before buying especially when like at present there is a wait of several months. If you don't put a deposit down you will not order a car thus you will never see it.

Think the last new car I bought and actually saw before ordering and leaving a deposit was in 1980, a Mk 2 Ford Escort. In truth it was difficult to see it properly since it was crammed between many others.

I never saw my current car, a pre-reg until collection. It was in a remote compound.

Had one truly odd buying experience with a Kia. Turned up to look and booked a test drive for the following Thursday. Never been to the dealership before but the salesman took no details, did not want to see our licences, simply gave us the keys and told us to enjoy it. When we got back (2 hours later) he said he had worked out a price to change which was spot on what I expected to pay after haggling (based on other deals I had negotiated on other cars), he wrote it on the back of his card. Told us it would be 8 weeks and took no deposit and we signed no paperwork. 6 weeks later got a phone call to say it had arrived but since we were on holiday in Scotland it had to wait a week. Transferred money while we were at the dealership and drove away. Turned out mechanic had bought our PX and went to Cornwall the next day.

Ah, the only "new" car I bought was a pre reg , and was therefore there to see and test drive.

That was many years ago though, so is probably very different now.

Even with all that though, the main dealer not Toyota, subsequently turned out to be absolutely terrible liars and very close to being crooks

As in when faced with publicity and legal action to remedy all their lash ups, engaged in attempted threats rather than a willingness to put things right.

Unfortunately the credit card protection only applies where the seller takes the card transaction.  E.g. if you bought via Paypal and paid with credit card then the section 75 protection would not apply.

Yup, that's why I said Paypal is less safe even if you pay through paypal using a credit card; You're then subject to their protection policies which are less strong than the CC's.

I had the email last Saturday that my ordered Yaris had left the factory (France). I know the App is not very reliable. How long to dealership from leaving factory? Thank you

It varies Graham but once they tell you it’s reached Zebrugge you can monitor the ship which is Sea Cruiser 2.
