Hi all,

Following the MOT failure at Toyota last Tuesday, it has been quite a testing time. Here's the fail list:

Repair immediately (major defects):

  • Parking brake efficiency below requirements (1.4.2 (a) (i))
  • Offside Rear Brake pipe excessively corroded (1.1.11 (c))
  • Oil leaking excessively from transmission (8.4.1 (a) (i))

The oil leak was fixed by getting the 5th gear casing replaced at a gearbox specialist. Thankfully, there was no internal wear to 5th gear. As the car was tested at Toyota, the brake pipe quote was £460 and to inspect the rear o/s/r hub to access the parking brake shoes was £120 😱

Luckily, I was able to get a last minute space with my usual independent Garage today. Another MOT was carried out this morning, with the below findings:

Repair immediately (major defects):

  • Parking brake efficiency below requirements (1.4.2 (a) (i))

This has now been repaired with a new fitment spring to safely secure the shoes and of course dramatically reduced the cost! 😃

Not a perfect day though as the following came up as one of the Advisories. Getting this done, rather be safe, than sorry!

  • Fuel Pipe/s corroded Return to tank, advise replacement very soon ()

As always, thanks for the advice

Rob
