Converting Ss-1 To Ss-2/3 Power

Thanks to your fab forum, I've just realised that the Gen 6 Celica GT I bought last xmas, is actually a SS-1 (138bhp) and not the 173bhp car I thought I was buying (OK, so I didn't research enough). To be honest I never thought it was very fast anyways.

So, is there anything I can do, apart from swapping engines, or buying a new car, that will make my engine produce SS-2 power?

Like a new chip, or something?

Thanks in advance

Dom

OK, I've located a 3S-GE engine with 40,000 miles for £500.

What would I get for my 95,000 mile 3S-FE engine?

Will fitting the 3S-GE engine ultimately de-value my car or make it harder to sell in the long run?

Thanks

Dom

i think the SS-2 has harsher cams.

So probably either Cam your existing car with a chip ETC. or swap the cylinder head?

Just ideas... im sure both are fully documented if possible

BTW hi everyone im new :P

if yours is a 2 litre , just changing the head over should give 179 bhp as it was the head that was uprated , if its the 1800 cc engine i think you'll do better to change the engines.

thought only the JDM spec ss2 was 180BHP and the uk 173BHP?

Although adjust the timing for high octane fuel on the UK model and you should be able to get 180bhp.

hold on. i was under the impression that all the gen6 celica gt's were 173bhp.

check these links -

and

if someone could clarify this i would be most appricated as i am all confused. :help:

the JDM (import) spec models are tuned for high octane fuel though. Thats why they have more power....

i think

well there u go the first link says 175 the second 173 , i have seen links that state between 173 and 180 online also . all imports are meant to run on higher octane as the ecu is programmed for it , the uk versions run on any fuel.

you will have to forgive me on this one, i am very thick. but if the 6th gen gt celicas produce around 173-175 bhp, what are these ss1 and ss2 versions are they the imported versions or somthing?

Celica 2 litre GT's:

SS1's are around 140BHP and SS'2 around 175BHP

i think you can get SS1's and SS2's in UK and import versions too.

Also there is the SS3's *drool* this is the beams VVTI versions - 200BHP +++

ST's are 1.8's

Ahh, but mine is a SS1 (chassis number confirms this) and is definately a 2.0GT not an ST or an 1.8.

Celica 2 litre GT's:

SS1's are around 140BHP and SS'2 around 175BHP

That's the info I discovered, and the car only feels like 140bhp max.

So, if I can locate a cylinder head off a SS2 (or SS3?) then I should be rocking???

Thanks again :D
