Helmholtz Resonance… you betcha.

Terrified to open one rear window too far as the booming is sickening.

Easily remedied by opening any other window fractionally, but couldn’t Toyota have ironed out this a tad during development stage.

I point this out as this car is by far the worst with this problem compered to others I have driven.

Just wondered if anyone else has noticed the booming is more of an issue with this particular model (corolla TS), or is it just me.

It may be you. I use the A/C all the time, so rarely drive with a window open.

I never have a window open, why create an aerodynamic car with A/C if you drive around with the window open? Seems to defeat the object

wind deflectors allow the window to be open 20-30mm with no resonance or boom

Happened in every recent car I've had... Toyota and Ford and Peugeot and Renault

It also happens in various VW, Skoda and Vauxhalls I’ve had - they don’t seem designed to drive at speed with the windows open.

This has been a thing in almost every car I've owned or sat in, with some cars being much worse than others - The only way I've found to counter it is to open the rear windows slightly, or in my old Mk1, open the sunroof.

Like others I don't do it very often but I've noticed on every car I've driven,

My mk2 Skoda Octavia was the worst I've ever driven for this. Since the advent of A/C I can't remember the last time I felt compelled to drive with the rear windows open however.

Some say Dub Step was invented by someone sitting in a car with only the front windows open...

Could be, but my pal Denzel used to carry two professional shin kickers in the back of his escort van in the 90s while driving around near the half moon in Putney.

He instructed them to boot the sides of the van in a rythmical manner, with their boots that were maintained by the regular application of dubbin , hence the name dub step.

Every car is like that. You're not suppose to drive with the windows open past 60 mph, however fun that might be.

I've used wind deflectors (Megane DCI Estate), since I like to drive with the windows open, like fully opened. They work. Not sure about wind resistance, maybe you lose a bit of efficiency, I don't know. They do impede a little on visibility too.

It's not me opening the rear window. It's a 9 year old  minx, who takes great delight in causing the booming which unsettles all, whilst amusing her greatly. I really should use the window lock button.😏

If they're sitting on the right hand side, run the windscreen washer jets a few times, that'll make 'em shut it PDQ :naughty:
