Good Evening People. I have this rattle sound at start up not all the time but sometimes. It sounds like the right hand side of the engine low down. It starts then fades away and then don't happen. Only at start sometimes. Thank for your help

Hi Paul, the rattling sound at startup could be caused by a few things especially since it's coming from the right side of the engine and happens intermittently during startup.

Loose engine mount, one of them, particularly the one on the right side, could be worn or loose. This allows the engine to move slightly more than usual during startup, causing a rattling sound.

Loose heat shield. If one of these shields on the right side is loose or bent, it could rattle against other parts of the engine during startup.

Has it just started or have you noticed it for a while. Has the car been serviced lately.😄

Hi Tony. Thanks for the response. The car was serviced 2 weeks ago. I took it back to them this week no loose mountings or heat shields. Bit frustrating to be honest. 👍

Hi Paul, this happens to many people you get a noise take it in to a garage and they can't find anything. I understand your video tried to capture the sound but i am sure most of us would have heard nothing out of the ordinary. Did the garage ask any of the these questions when you took it back.

Can you describe the sound in more detail. Is it metallic, grinding, ticking, or something else. ?Does it only happen on cold starts (first start of the day) or can it happen at any time?

How loud is the rattle? Is it a very brief and light rattle, or is it a more prominent and concerning sound?

When you took the car in did they keep it overnight to see if they could hear anything on first start in the morning or did you drop it off when the car was warm.

As it only happens sometimes its very difficult for anyone to diagnose the problem but if Toyota have looked at it and can find no immediate problems then IMO I would monitor the sound over time and see if it gets any worse or goes away. It doesn't sound like anything to worry about.

I agree with Bob - sounds completely healthy to me. All the noises that I can hear in the video sound very normal and typical of that engine.
