Whats a short shifter,

i think its something to do with gearbox

hard to fit? DIY?

what benefits?

WHy have one?

it reduces the movement of the G'stick ..

so mine used to move 6" from first to reverse .. it's now halfed ..

it helps when racing the quarter mile , you lose fractions of a second ,cos gear change strokes arn't as long.

IMHO I dont think you can really fault the gear change on most Toyotas. As for short shifters they`re not really worthwhile for normal road use. If you want to enhance the gearchange try replacing the rubber bushes with bronze ones where the cables connect to the gearbox. About 30 quid but does make the change a lot more positive. Got mine off eBay so dont know who would retail them.

Any ideas Maleborn? :D

the gear change on 6th gens is very clumsy imo

Not had the pleasure. But i`ve no complaints with mine. Used to baulk a bit betwen 2nd and 3rd on the upshift but new bushes BUSHES ON EBAY

cured that. :)

clumsy in comparison to my last cars... rover 216 (honda powered) and citroen zx 1.4.

perhaps its just mine? but i cant imagine anything is wrong with it... its just a bit ****

gears on my gen 6 are sweet as a nut.very tight and precise. :thumbsup:

never heard of any bronze bushes dak :blink:

where do they go , under the gear knob on them levers or gearbox end ???

Gearbox end of the cables. Takes out any movement you get with the rubber ones. The only thing i was slightly concerned about was whether they would wear the eyes on the gearbox linkages so i just put some grease on them and re grease them every now and then. :thumbsup:
