when you stick your burnt skin in water the pain goes away as the air cannot get to the burn. vaseline does the same trick

btw.. a tip for you... always use oven gloves... pull hot metal objects with your hands always tends to sting.

cold water helps to stop the burn penetrating deeper down

even though your not in contact with it anymore it can still keep going into your finger!

go to the freezer, remove ice cube - hold against thumb..

for the reasons Rob mentioned...

Steves idea of vaseline is good for removing pain, but that will also trap any latent heat left in the thumb... so best to do after holding ice cube on thumb for 10 mins..

lesson one in bloke-ism ....

never use ovens... cooker, what is that ? Microwaves are freindly, and easy to use. Microwave meals only.

Do you know wher the cooker is in your flat jim? :D

When a friend and I stupidly tried to weld a petrol tank and he didnt move quick enough it burnt half of his face off!!! (hes fine now) The nurse said the best thing for burns is cling film as no air gets to it. Obviously we couldnt as it was his face lol but a little tip for finger/hand burns

(ps ice is very bad as it damages nerve endings)

CRAPPY LITTLE STORY BUT...............

my girlfriend seriously burned herself, her skin blistered immediately!

i phoned the hospital before i took her up as her clothes were starting to stick to her, they told me to get her in a cold shower immediately to remove the heat!!!!!(VERY IMPORTANT APPARENTLY)

they told me not to wrap it in anything such as a blanket as it could peel off the skin, which probably goes for cling film too.

ice could be a major no-no as well for the same reason (stick your hot tongue onto the ice in your freezer....you'll see what i mean) ;)

hope this may help someone in the future,,,,,,or not as the case may be.

oh......by the way my bird recovered very quickly and has been left with no scaring considering how serious the burn was.

Burns are strange... Depending upon whom u see (specialist/hospital etc) it seems each has there 'own' approach, when molten metal fell onto my welding glove and burnt through *ouch*, I was told to put a cold can on it, not ice as this will burn the skin.. I was told by the in-house first aider not to burst or pop the blister at all as the contents act as a cleaning/germ barrier agent. Ok no problem.....

Down the hospital. First thing the doctor does, puts a !Removed! pin straight through it..?

Worst thing about burns, apart from the prolonged pain...they get infected very very easy. If it's that bad...hospital job.

Oh, and look on eBay for an oven glove....or nick a welding glove off a mate
