Hi all

I'm thinking about buying an Emina - does anyone have any advice / views / opinions to share please?

Thanks

Rodders welcome to the club.

It has been quiet in here lately but i am sure others will come along and give their advice etc.

I bought an Estima Emina x-lux back in may but don't class myself as an expert in any way. I joined TOC to find out a bit more about these vehicles before considering buying one, much like (i guess) yourself.

There are other sites more dedicated to this specific model where you can get other information, I won't promote them here but a search for Estima on google, yahoo etc should bring them up.

My advice is, research the different specs available as there are many plus lots with added extras and decide which suits you. I.E not everyone needs 4 wheel drive, hot and cold box etc.

Have a very good look around at the market as prices vary a lot. E.G. I nearly paid £7000 for exactly the same spec and year as I now have which I found in a very small but specialised dealer for £4500 with warranty!

DON'T buy without a warranty. There are head gasket, cracked block issues with these vehicles if they haven't been maintained properly. Don't be put off as they are ultra reliable vehicles if they are simply maintained properly.

I could go on but i won't. If you have any specific questions please just ask and i and hopefully others will try to answer them.

Finally, i looked at all the mpv's on the market, test drove checked reliability reports etc and concluded that for my circumstances ( 3 children 2 dogs and numerous camping holidays ) the Estima was the best all round and the most practical. I have not been dissapointed.

I was aware that they are not the most economical, 25-30 mpg at best and have slightly short travel on the suspension but great all round.

Right I have gone on and said I wouldn't, happy hunting.

Oh how I wish I had recieved the advice above,

shelled out four grand for a J reg lucida emina about three months ago,

I now am the proud owner of a manually portable silver shed !Removed! greenhouse,

maybe it would make a better greeenhouse, judging from the amount of water that gets mixed into the oil recently.

so just to confirm the above from Gareth.. give it a good looking over before you part with your readies

it started the day after I got it from a Darlington garage, I took my grandkids on a trip to the seaside, the expansion tank level light came on, refilled it, and all seemed hunky dorey for the next week, (local runs), found that there were water leaks, changed the hose clips for better ones

then it came on agin,, refilled it, spoke to garage, said it was an inherent problem with this marque, kept refilling it til finally the oil level light came on,

tried the dipstick, over full ???. decided to change oil and filter, used stp flusher,

replaced filter and bunged in oil, next day it ran like a bag of nails, with clouds and clouds of steam issuing from the exhaust... also the turbo lights kept on at amber,if revved over 3000.

hope this helps you be very vigilant.. :ffs:

The 2.2 diesel is known for blowing its gasket if it overheats and cracking its head around No4 cylinder. When test driving one take it on a ong run and get it nice and hot try going up a few hills, the temp gauge should never get above 1/2 way. it should stay just below the 1/2 way no matter what. If the head gasket is gone and you need a replacement then it's also adviseable to replace the radiator.

Lucida.. There is a guy who lives in thurrock essex who is excellent with these things but I cant get into the other website to get his number for ya
