Why Is It "cool" To Drive With Fog Lights?

OK, I'm, old(ish) and being cool is not really a priority.

Soooooo, can anyone tell me why it is cool to drive round with fog lights on? Come to think of it, why do they even put them on cars? Why do we pay extra for them? When was the last time we had fog that bad that you needed fog lights rather than headlights?

I especialy hate those who in HEAVY RAIN feel the need to put on their FOG liights... they are NOT HEAVY RAIN lights are they?.. they are fog lights meant for FOG... and don't use poor visability as an excuse either they are for use in the FOG not HEAVY RAIN ... in rainy conditions just slow down a bit no need for fog lights.

And sitting behind these ppl gives me a headache.

I only use my fogs in very bad weather conditions eg torrential rain and then only on the motorway.

I thought braindead was talking about the gimps who drive around with their front fogs on, but I do agree with you that its really annoying to be sat behind someone who has their rear fogs on although I think even the highway code recommends you switch on rear fogs in poor visibility, even if its caused by road spray when its raining.

Personally I only ever use my rear fogs if I am at the last or only person on a stretch of road. As soon as someone approaches from behind I turn them off.

My reasoning says that once they can see me I dont need the extra visibility. If someone storms up from behind its the car behind me that'll get hit not me.In these days of rain sensing wipers and self dimming rear view mirrors you'd think that it wouldn't be beyond the car makers to get rear fogs to turn off automatically as soon as a car comes up from behind.

down the country lanes in winter where the 'real dark' occurs (people who live in towns don't know what this is) the MR2 fogs are great for lighting up the verges, also in the MR2 the fogs are so low, and angled down that if you drive behind another car you notice they only light up really low down (wheel height). Its the only place I ever use my fogs but i have never had anyone flash me. I have also driven in front on another MR2 with fogs on and had no issue as the are so low, zero blinding in rear view mirror etc. 100% of modern cars with these supposed self leveling HID headlights are another matter though, they hit any bump in the road and the beam bounces everywhere.

People who use fog lights (front or rear) when it's not foggy should be dragged from their cars, stripped, tied to the nearest lampost and flogged.

There is one exeption though.

When the weather is wet and the spray is restricting visibility I would sooner see fog lights approaching in my mirror, than the total moronic pond life sccum who drive on side lights or no lights at all!!!!

Bringing back the death penalty would be the only answer. :angry:12_1_214.gif

I use fogs where there are no street lights (country lanes etc) as they light up the side of the road that the headlights miss, also when visibility is harshly reduced due to poor weather. As they are factory fitted, they are angled correctly so not to dazzle any road users. I think I’ve used them twice since having the YTS in June.

Now don’t get me started on rear fogs because some Muppet doesn’t realise they are on :ffs:

Ahh. Fog lights. My pet hate. Although i`ve been guilty of it myself recently albeit inadvertently (No warning light for the fronts) All i`m gonna say is if you drive with them on unnecessarily just to impress???? Then you are an irresponsible mindless CHAV. and should be driving this.....

i use my fogs instead of my popups in daylight looks alot better that way

so i guess i'm a muppet who should be dragged from my car, stripped, tied to the nearest lampost and flogged, and also a chav who should not be driving my 2 and all the other bad things posted in this thread?

I was refering to front fogs as a fashion accessory (or so it seems).

Folks with rear fogs in town are just f*ckw*ts. Get to work and can only see blue dot on the screen for the first half hour if I get stuck behind one!

Stripping and whipping would seem to be the answer.

Totally agree with you mate on both counts...

Mk2 MR2 fogs are low and dont cause much of a problem and are faced down... well.. mine seem to be...

The new BMW's - Audi's etc.. with the HID!!!! man.. those things do my nut in!.. Its one thing to have them but they are adjustable!.. mums got an A4 and we make sure they aint blinding oncoming trafic...

If visibility is 100m or less then you can use them, this applies to any adverse weather condition (Except darkness). I think you can get an on the spot fine (£30) for incorrect use.

Thing that gets me is people with poor angled headlights or driving behind me with full beams on :ffs:

I left work a bit later one afternoon last week, and it nearly dark (about 4.25 pm by this stage) and some looser in an escort had their rear fog light on infront of me, and then some idiot behind had their front fogs on so I was blinded...I ended up going round the roundabout one two many times to get away from them

On one forum I use they have banned text speak all together as its hard for regular normal people to understand

Perhaps an idea for the future? I cant stand it myself - its quicker to type in it written English anyway!
