Electric Aerials

Help....I replaced the electric aerial in my missis's '93 Celica GT yesterday. The OE Toyota Item was laughably priced so I went to Halfords and got one for £39.99.

It had 3 power connections - a permament live, a switched

live, and an earth . Using a multimeter I duly connected them up

to the existing block wiring connector .

When I switched the radio on the mast went up, when I switched

it off the mast retracted - all as it should.

But.....as I was preparing to replace the bits of trim I

noticed that the motor on the aerial had become incredibly hot ?

I disconected the feed to it, let it cool down and double checked the

connections again using the meter - all ok?.

Suffice to say when re-connected it didn't work anymore ???

Why did it get hot? why didn't any fuses blow ?

Did I do anything wrong or could it have been faulty to start with?

Any Ideas anyone ?

Paul.
