Hi,

New to the forum and hope someone can help, I've had to replace the front discs/pads on avensis 4d4 2ltr turbo diesel after just 4k miles twice and after 2k miles once, now have warped discs again! No signs of oil etc on discs. Have been using independant garage and having toyota parts fitted, costing me a fortune!

how old is the car, the parts should be under warranty anyway but if still under manufacturer warranty would get mr t to have a look...

Car is 4 years old and out of warranty, Toyota won't refund on parts warranty 'cos I had them replaced by independant garage, they will only refund if fitted by their mechanics. My mechanic has tried everything to find reason why discs are warping so quickly, is this a known problem with the Avensis, any suggestions on possible cause would be great

can only be a sticking caliper , or long and hard braking during wet weather and driving into puddles when the discs are red hot.

Warping at around 4K is a bit abnormal. Like maleborn1967 suggested, it could be the caliper.

Usually the warping is due to crap discs or the pads too hard. I found the Apec pads a lot better solution for warping. They are slightly softer and dust a bit more but I find them OK.

Hi,

On my 2.0lt SR I had continual warping and judder problems, dealer skimmed them and second time around pads as well. Turned out to be the calipers. The caliper piston seal also retracts the piston from the disc on releasing the brake. The tolerances were wrong and the pads rub on the disc causing a build up of heat. New calipers under warranty and no problem after. Hope this helps AND MAYBE a dealer could tell you if this issue is applicable to your car save you going round in circles :ffs: .

Maybe someone will talk to me on the avensis site as I havent even had a hello on the corolla site :(

  • 1 year later...

I have my discs and pads changed on my 99 1.8GS about 18 months ago due to a shuddering through the steering when braking. 16k later and the new ones are showing the same issue. Is this typical?

known problem design fault

not fixable without performance pads and discs ie expensive vented discs and green pads

Just had the same problem (brake judder when braking) so after talking to a few Toyota specialists they told me the original pads are too abrasive causing the discs to warp too easily.

So with this in mind i decided to go the whole hog and do an upgrade with Black Diamond vented cross drilled and grooved discs with pads to suit, !Removed! expensive but well worth it because after all safety first
