Cat` Question

Hi,

Can somebody please tell me if the Catalic Converter on a Diesel is the same as a Cat` on a Petrol Engine car?

doubt it i think emissions are very different.

yes, they do the same job, reducing harmful hydrocarbons.

Granted diesel burns differently but it still needs a CAT like petrol cars to be within safe limits.

cats are usually welded to the exhaust, the engines being different proberly causes them to have different exhausts. so initally i'd say no. but i stand to be corrected.

What year is your car?, I think the diesel Avensis has what is known as a 'close coupled' cat, ie, bolted directly on to the manifold, where the petrol models have an 'underfloor cat' ie, front pipe from manifold then inline cat bolted/sleeved in between that and the middle section. So no you can't I'm afraid ;)

A little more info on the car might shed a bit more light
