My New Daily Driver

Flat Pack
 Share

Recommended Posts

I've had the Focus about 18 months now and its been most things a daily driver should be, practical, reliable and comfortable. Only one slight problem... Its boring as hell ;)

So it was time for a change, time for something more interesting. Took a while to find one, but here it is :) I'd always loved the shape, but a lot of the UK cars are getting rotten and I'm no fan of the 7M engine either... It was old tech even when the cars were brand new back in the late eighties. So this one's a 2.5 TT 1JZ engined Japanese car, light(er!)weight 'R' model.

Will it make a good daily driver? Its comfortable, should be practical enough and hopefully it'll be reliable enough. I don't care much about MPG as it won't do enough miles to make a huge amount of odds. Definitely interesting enough though :)

The TT-R is the holy grail of supras

What colour is it? black or DSG?

It's black :). In an ideal world I'd have found a manual 2.5TT Aerotop, but they seem rarer than a very rare thing. Its done 100,000 kms which is more than some but still only just over 62,000 miles and for anyone that knows about Japanese auction gradings, its a grade 4 which means it should be in pretty good nick considering its age ;)

Worst part now is waiting for it to get the damn boat from Japan though lol

Hmm a focus or ...

Good choice mate - hope you have fun!

Lol, the reasoning behind the Focus was that I already have a fun car... Just the fun car isn't finished and I get really bored driving the Focus all the time.

Ironically my other car will probably be done about the same time this one shows up though :)

Thanks for the comments :) Not sure about those wheels either but they'll do for now. Seen some cars with Revolite style split rims, black centres and shiny rims, which really suit the car. Expensive though...

Here's a few more pics if anyone's interested (and not at JAE! ;) ). I'll make them all links so as not to upset anyone on dialup

Those were all taken by the export agent when they inspected it. Now they've just got to find a boat for it to go on.

Looks pretty reasonable for a 15 year old car, some little bits and pieces to tidy on the interior and I might need some ideas for removing window tint lol. Exhaust looks interesting too, might be a tad excessive :P

One question Dave....

  • 1 month later...

Holy thread resurrection... Foiled, the car does fit up the drive ;)

After a bit of a struggle to get it moved the last few miles from Liverpool to Warrington, it turned up today.

Good first impression anyway, starts well (guy driving the transporter that it came on was quite shocked that it started first time at the docks without evening need a jump off something else) and the engine seems pretty sweet at low revs and idle. Done the usual tests out in the road and no nasty clonks from the suspension, CV joints etc (even getting up onto my drive, which is pretty steep at first). Noted it has the turning cirle of a small ship. Obviously I can't tell too much until its been up to temperature and driven at speed, but it all seems sound.

Engine bay looks clean, plenty of oil and coolant. Cusco sticker under the bonnet, no idea what its referring to (I know its got adjustable suspension, could be that I spose, not had a chance to get under it yet and now its raining). Kakimoto (lol @ that name) backbox, probably rest of the exhaust too and HKS induction kit are the other mods I've spotted, along with the wheels.

Most of the electrics that I've tried so far work, as does the A/C. Only thing that hasn't worked right is the stereo, only seem to get sound out of one speaker. Could be because I can't figure out how to change balance and fade and someone has stuck it to one corner, or it could be knackered. Its rubbish anyway, so it'll be coming out at some point. Even the leccy aeriel works, which gave me a fright when I put the radio on.

4 Bridgestone Potenza tyres with loads of tread left on them, no idea what they're like compared to the UK ones but they'll do for now unless they prove truely lethal.

The window tint is gonna have to go too, not because its illegal but because I can't see a damn thing out the rear view mirror :P

You're probably all truely bored by now, so I'll get onto some pics. Needs a damn good clean, clay and proper polish but it should come up alright after that:)

LOL the kit car is moving along, not much left to do on it now. Seeing as I missed the summer I'm in no huge rush to finish it now, probably SVA it late October or early November.

just use a hair dryer on the tint film mate, warm and pull gently. pull too quick and the glue peels from the tint and stays on the glass. remove that with nail varnish remover or some kind of gum/glue remover , scrape it off with an old credit card .
