Yaris Service

Hi.

My yaris is due a 3 year service this month, so it's basically only an oil change. The problem is I have several minor problems with the car.

1. The exhaust rattles when the car is stationary.

2. The front fog light cover (black plastic trim) on the bumper is cracked and needs replacing.

3. The passenger door blew open in a strong wind and is now creaking quite badly.

4. Somet else but I've completely forgotten what!!

Like I said nothing big, but the Toyota dealership will probably be able to deal with it easier, like the door hinges and plastic trim. Is it worth getting Toyota to do everything at the same time, service and problems, or going to a private garage? Garage won't rip you off for the service, but might struggle for the parts.

Oh, if I needed a hire car, would it be included in the price of the service etc. or have you got to pay extra.

Cheers.

They will charge you arm and a leg but will prob do good job, personally i would go somewere private and get it done cheaper.

Toyota will probably replace things were as other garages will fix them!

Regarding a hire car there is three options if you go with toyota

1) you use your own insurance (if you have it/fully comp) and it will be free

2) you pay the dealership £10 and you get put on their insurance

3) I can't remember

Also about taking it to Toyota it's upto you whether you want a full toyota service history?

Okay it may cost more but if you don't know a good rep local garage or someone who works at one personally I would pay the extra and take it to toyota

If its warranty work then yes, get the dealer to do it as is shouldn't cost you a penny. If its "other" stuff then either do it yourself or have a trusted independent garage do it for you.

The best way to find a good independent garage is really personal recommendation.

dude you could have all that stuff fixed yourself in like an hour.

the toyota dealer where i live would have you waitin all day an wouldnt do a good job.

if you need a new plastic surround for the foglight get it from the dealer (see if u can get it on warranty) and fit it yourself, the hinges on the door probably just need greased and a wee tighten maybe, and the exhaust clamp is probably loose, just tighten it up again.

You would have to love wasting time and money to take your car to a dealer for those things, 95 quid an hour or whatever it is for labour and be waiting all day for the car when you could do it yourself quickly and easily?

Thanks for advice

I'm gonna try and get the part from toyota and sort out the problems myself since they're pretty minor then use a decent garage I know to do the service. Saved a few quid there me thinks.

Should be worth mentioning that if you are 'being serviced' by Toyota, you may well be able to get a free courtesy car for the time it takes to fix yours. This may make extra cost worthwile and keep history up to date. They should also spot a loose exhaust and tighten it in the cost, unless parts are needed. They always lube doors and other hinges so that may get sorted anyway.

If its your three year service then your car is still under warranty (so long as you have TFSH)

I would take it to Toyota and get it all fixed under warranty, you might as well! You might have to pay for the wear & tear items, like the bumper, but the exhaust can get looked at most definitely

In the handbook (the service book I mean), it does say in there that Toyota wont do warranty work just because you went elsewhere for a service - they just wont do it if the problem is a result of it not being serviced at the appropiate times.

I know this is true as our Yaris Blue was serviced at a Toyota & Lexus specialist (who werent Toyota approved), whilst it was there they found it had a leak in December and it went back last week to Toyota who sorted it under warranty with no problem at all.

But your Toyota specialist would have used approved Toyota parts, from what I always gathered it was the use of non-official Toyota parts etc that would invalidate the warranty

I think Blue is trying to say that if the car hasn't been serviced according to Toyota (ie every 10k/1 year) then this will also invalidate the warranty ......

And that is true

*This doesn't have to be done at Toyota but any garage ...... but again using Toyota parts

How long will it take for a garage (either toyota or other garage)to get Toyota parts? I'm thinking specifically of the bumper black trim that is cracked.

I've remembered the 4th problem with the car - the clutch makes quite a loud creak when I depress the pedal. Sound like its from the engine bay. Not a big deal, just concerned it might need looking at.
