Axle Stands - Where Do I Put?

Hi,

Need some help - want to do an oil & filter change myself on my Avensis 2.0 T3 D4D - current shape model.

Any ideas anyone where to locate axle stands to support front of the car - don't trust my trolley jack whilst fiddling under the car?

Also using Mobil 1 Diesel synthetic oil 0W-40 - anyone had any issues with this?

All help gratefully received.

Cheers Lee.

I always jack the car up squarely from an engines subframe and place the axle stands under the jacking point on the sills on each side. This is the point design by toyota to take the vehicle load for roadside tyre changes etc.

If you are doing this on an older car then be careful as you let the trolley jack down as it is not unknown for the sill to collapse due to internal corrosion although it is better to find this out at home than on a dark wet night by the side of the road.

If you want to be really safe then you can place a scaffold board between the two stands to spread the load evenly but watch out for brake lines, fuel pipes and the exhaust pipe so that they don't get squashed.
