Right what speed rating is needed/recommended by the manufacturer and needed for insurance purposes on the first avensis. The tyre size is 196/60r/15 but then what speed rating? Just want to make sure before i order some new ones...

Thanx :P

It will depend on which engine you have. Do you know the car's theoretical top speed?

And have you looked at your current tyres to see what rating they are matty? Not that I'd take that as definitely right - if the car's capable of a higher speed than the rating of the current tyres then go for the higher rating even if you never intend to us that speed.

Hi,

I don't think it's stated anywhere in the manual because it depends on what country you are in.

In Sweden the rules are that the tyre should be rated to handle at least the top speed of the car (ie what it says on the speed meter).

See the conversion below (sorry for ony km/h):

H - 210km/h

Q - 160km/h

R - 170km/h

S - 180km/h

T - 190km/h

U - 200km/h

V - 240km/h

W - 270km/h

Y - 300km/h

ZR - 240km/h +

ZR+Y - 300km/h +
