Faulty Thermostat/water Pump?

Hi

1999 Avensis owner (1.8 petrol, 100,000 on clock) - newbie to forum, so hi and thanks in advance for any help.

Overflow bottle water bubbling up and spilling out/letting out steam, after approx 15 minutes driving from cold. Water not circulating, going between rad & overflow bottle.

Advised it was faulty water pump. This was replaced, as was thermostat at same time.

Problem remains however. Apart from this engine sounds and feels AOK.

Note: oil is fine and clear, so don't believe it is head gasket problem? Am I right? Radiator feels cool to touch. One of the two hoses v. hot/other cool.

Any advice/ideas/suggestions?

Cheers

Eddie

To Eddie607,

If all repairs carried out properly & no damage to cyl/head? If you have hot & cold pipes that would usually denote air lock in system. Have you tried bleeding system with heater set to hot & on full blast. If all all other parts are in full working order with no blockages rad etc. It is possible heater valve is not working properly. Still sounds like an air lock?

Thanks, btw it's the top hose that's hot and the bottom is cold.

Not confident that thermostat and water pump changed properly....

Have had heater on full blast set to hot - no heat coming out.

Have bought Haynes manual. A friend of mine has suggested a stuck thermostat - he thinks it may have been incorrectly installed.

I also suspected airlock. The engine overheated once before and when airlock released it worked perfectly for some time.

Will report back - thanks. BTW Galway is a beautiful place - wd rather be there than here!

To Eddie607,

Keep us updated with outcome would be interested to know fault. Be careful with the bleeding over & over or you could end up with cyl/head problem.

Galway also a lot nicer than Kensal Rise.
