Hi people looking for some advice my car just fail as it just over the 0.300% for the emissions test.

The car does have 153,000 miles on clock so i knew it would be high. Any advice to get figure lower or is it time so say goodnight or even replace engine if needs to be that.

cheers

Matt

Good quality fuel (or regular + redex) and a good blast helps minimise the chance of failing - especially if your car doesn't get used much.

But if you've already failed this may be too late for you.

Has the car been serviced recently? Any warning lights on? Use much oil? Reasonable fuel consumption?

Yep give it a service, plugs and an air filter at least then use a whole tank treatment measure of stop smoke or redex or something designed to clean your engine and lower your emissions. Go for a good brand you recognise and not some cheap stuff, and use the whole tank treatment on no more than half the tankfull. Have a good drive around say about a quarter of the tank leaving the final quarter for the mot test, and then full up with normal fuel if there is any left when you pass your emissions test.

If the car is excessively smokey or you are getting poor MPG it might be a sensor or something else that you need to be getting done anyway so might be better to have a proper look at it.

as above, but also remove the air filter and spray a load of carb cleaner in while reving the engine, then replace with new filter possibily a k&N style one so more air gets in
