Is there something wrong with the RPM

Hi,

I'm from Singapore and I recently took delivery of a brand new Toyota Corolla facelift 1.6 Manual.

I have observed something strange with the RPM. At 90km/h, the RPM is at 2.7k. At 100 km/h, it's at 3.0k. That is quite high compared to my previous 1989 Corolla where at 100 km/h the RPM sits comfortably at about 2.5k. I have gone to the local dealer with my concern and was told that this is normal.

I was just wonder whether the new corolla could have a new gear ratio. But even if there is, why does it require more power (RPM) to run at normal speeds?

Could anyone help please?
