On the Rav i have which is a D4D, the second D is red, does this have any significance as i have also seen the D4D as all silver.

Need to settle an argument with one of the guys in work!

It stands for "Direct Injection 4 Cylinder Common Rail Diesel Engine". The "D" in current D-4D is red and the D-CAT "D" is green to emphasise the fact that the latter is cleaner. There was previously no distinction.
