Hi all ,

I have just had my rav4.3 2.2 D4D in for a full 20000 mile service at mr T and they didnt do the Rear diff oil change , is this normal or should it be done ? The garage told me after that that would be an EXTRA at £63 is this about right ?

Thanks all :)

Does the book say it should be done.

Personally I would do it myself it's not hard and a lot cheaper.

Park the car on the level. You might want to raise it a little but keep it level.

Undo the drain plug catching the old oil in a container.

Replace the plug. possibly with a new seal but not always.

Open the filler plug which is probably higher up on the back.

Refill with the correct oil. Usually the filler hole acts as the level when the oil starts to come out of the hole it's got enough in.

Simple. :)

Make sure you get the right oil.

Anchorman will probably be able to help out with that if it's not in the manual or kingo.

I'll help reduce his workload a bit.

Just in case it's not in the handbook (can't be bothered to go out to the RAV to check):

For 4.3 Rear diff it's 0.45 to 0.55 litres of GL-5 SAE90. 29lbft for the plug if you are that fussed.

Yeah, I've had this is the past. They didn't tick the diff on the service sheet. I questioned it (and was waiting for them to tell me it didn't have a rear diff ). They couldn't remember whether they'd changed it or not, so back it went into the workshop.............. Not the most difficult thing in the world to get right is it? Oh, well.

Its not the most difficult to get right i agree , you would think the garages had never seviced a rav before  .

Thanks for the oil Info , that will make things much easier now .

Cheers Shcm

It should be done on the 20k service. Take it back and make the bgrs do it.

I told them im sure it was in the service book to be done at 20k, and they said its additional work . £223 for the full service and they wanted extra £63 . Ive check again and it says its part of the 20k service . Think i will take your advice and take it back first and tell them !!!!!!

Cheers

Thinking about it I'm not sure mine was ever done. I just assumed it was. ;)

Think I shall have to do it myself as I'm now at 70K.

Ho Hum :)
