Tailgate Struts On Gen 7

Hi, I assume knackered tailgate struts are a common problem on the gen 7 celica? Anybody recommend where to buy replacements which don't cost more than the car is worth?! Thanks!

There's a company in Derby called Status Fluid Power who do a mail order regassing service if you don't want to Shell out on new struts.

Alternatively Toyota will be able to supply new ones. PM Parts-King for a good price ( see Lindop Toyota section ).

Someone may correct me on this, but I remember reading that the Celica T-Sport edition had stronger boot struts than the rest of the range due to the extra weight of the boot spoiler. Fitting these to a non t-sport model will be an improvement on the originals and probably last longer as a result.

All Spoiler equipped Gen 7's have the uprated Struts which are marked SP, presumably for Spoiler. I think Mr T want about £170 for a pair now but I can supply a new pair (with the SP marking) for £80 delivered if that helps.

Just had mine done under warranty. It's nice not having a boot lid fall on my head any more!

My boot makes a rattling sound when ever I go over a bump, does this mean I need new struts?

Well not necessarily mate. The boot struts hold the boot open. So if your boot stays open ok then you don't really need new struts.

Boot struts will perform much more poorly in cold temperatures.

As our weather is warming up a little now, you may find if you try your boot, it stays open ok.
