Flat Battery Problem

Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere...

My '98 Corolla (bug-eye) needs to be run every day or else the Battery runs flat... even if left for 3 days without a run, the beast wont start!

I have taken it to a couple of garages who couldn't sort it.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Have you checked that the Battery is ok? Is it in good condition, not too old, holding it's charge ok?

Have you checked the alternator is working ok? Is it giving the right output from it, is it charging the Battery as it should be?

Have you checked the earthing point has a good connection to the bodywork, not corroded or anything?

Many thanks for the suggestions....

Battery - yes, a new Battery was put in about six months ago...

Alternator - this was investigated by one of the garages... nothing wrong found

Earthing - this hasn't been investigated yet.

Can anyone suggest a good local specialist in the south Mancs or Sale area?

Sounds like you have a current draw somewhere when the key is off - normally an alarm or ICE problem causing the current draw.

If you can get hold of an Amp meter, disconnect the earth lead of the Battery, connect one side of the meter to the Negative post

of the Battery and the other side of the meter to the earth lead.

With the key out of the ignition, there should be no current draw showing on the meter.

Hope this helps,

Mick
