HI;

just had a message from the user mentioned above, and in it is an external link. Which form a new member I do not trust. I also noticed that he had quite a few ppl looking at his profile, so I guess i'm not the only one to receive a pm?

Am I seeing ghosts?

rick

Please ignore it, he was made inactive at about 9.45am so will not be able to send anymore out.

Do not click on the link, it takes you to an adult website which will certainly not be safe to view at work or with children about

It's possible the website may be harmful too, so it's absolutely imperative that anyone who has received a message from him deletes it.

Please see this thread for more info.

No need to delete as it also warns others :)

I e-mailed this warning from the e-mail facility on site to both my Son [soundman] & his intended[chance] in case they got PM notices and hadn't logged on, which was quite likely.

Have just had word back from my Son that he'd had one & the link wouldn't work :lol2: :lol2: :lol2:

Please stop hijacking threads... the last one had to be closed, I'd prefer this one not go the same way due to the seriousness of the problem at hand.

Invision have just issued an upgrade, so its obviously affected many other sites as well -

"We have received numerous reports from clients regarding spamming on the Personal Message (PM) system in IP.Board 2.3.6 and below. After consulting with reCaptcha (the provider of the captcha system in 2.3.6) we believe that humans are being used to bypass the captcha and then the newly created account is given to an automated script which sends PMs in huge quantities to your members.

The patch we have released today introduces a flood control setting to the PM system in IP.Board 2.3.6. This will limit how fast a member can send PMs thereby giving you and your moderators time to ban the offending account.

The download of 2.3.6 in the client area has been updated with this patch. If you already have 2.3.6 installed, you can download the patch along with instructions in the news announcement on the company forums. Applying the patch is quite easy but if you have questions feel free to contact support."

We can see from this the need to have a flood control system.

Big hand to the guys on this forum spending time to clean up the flood and install the fix. :toast:
