Hi

This might be a really stupid question but was just wondering..

I've just bought my first Rav 4, it has side steps, but they are fitted so far in you can't actually 'step' onto them, is this normal? are they just for show or are you actually supposed to be able to use them?..sorry if its a stupid question but not had time to really look into it yet!

Thanks

They're there just to make your trousers/legs dirty when you get out

Joking apart, I have them on mine - they do help when I am transporting elderly parents and in-laws and children find them beneficial I believe. If you have roof rails too, they become useful when washing the roof, providing a step up and something to hold on to - saves the need for a step ladder. On some high end 4X4s the steps are linked to the door mechanism and move out as the door is opened.

Enjoy your RAV and a belated welcome to the club

The ones you have are the tube type rather than actual steps. They are just for show, but do offer a little bit

of side protection from rocks etc in the unlikely event that you go offroad

If you don't like them you can sell them, some people want them and would be happy to pay half (?) the new price (I don't know how much that is).
