Baz min....ah can hear this sorta whisper all over Scotland....thought it was just a wee summer breeze....naw....it's most of Scotland PRAYING that your Rav will be ok....!!!!

Besta Luck,

Big Me

Hi Big K, was talkin tae ra mekanik guy at ra garage an wot dose he tell me?" if its the turbo, we dont touch them 'cause there's too many complications wi the warranty ie: regular oil changes an' some other sh*** during the time of the turbo warranty? Never heard of so much crap. if its operating as a garage should they not be capable of such work?. its as if they're tryin tae fob me off with not wantin the work in the first place! an then they;ll still charge for "looking at it".I think it justifies why I dont trust garages and like most members here will rty an do the work themselves!Still looking at the bright side it might NOT b the dreaded turbo!

think so, he said the mechanic turned the engine (dont know if by hand or not)and it was "sticking?" I could turn the frnt wheel by hand as advised by yourself I think.Would the engine have to be running to "seiz-up"?

I dont see how it could siez/stick as it had just had an oil change/ new filter. If there was gunge in the sump would that have ahything to do with it?

When an engine seizes Baz, it is usually the metal parts that are binding together but my understanding is you can run it OK up to a certain revs?

It doesn't make sense. They are very stiff to turn by hand. The trouble is he may be right but I cannot confirm like this, I need to test for myself.

Yes the engine ran but only up to about 2000 refs, maybe less but it did run! and it sounded to me like what u get with a petrol engine if the plug leads are not in the right order, like missing a beat. It was this way when It BROKE DOWN 9mth ago!

Well it does sound like surgery is needed. It either needs opening up or another engine.

Just been told its a surgical job!. Ive been in touch with a company in Inverness that specialise in recon/new diesel engines including Toyota rav's. and they pick-up and deliver to Oban.I'm now wating for an e-mail (probably tomorrow)detailing prices, warranties ect.Just as an after thought, would I be would it be wise to get them to check-out the turbo as well? or take a chance and leave it as is?. Just tryin to get it done at a reasonable cost but want all to be running ok! Will keep u posted :-).P.S. Is it normal to change the timing belts when this kind of job is done?

CHEERS ..............BAZ :-)

If the engine doesn't come with a turbo, let them try yours first. Don't over react Baz, its costing you enough already
