This morning,

Some frost and some black ice/slush

On way home, our usual route was closed. So we switched on satnav for alternate - but concerned it might take us thru some black ice hilly country side route...

It did!

Up a very steep cobbled slushy country lane!

Car behind struggled and stopped or car stucked

Van behind car did the same

We parked up after wheels spin a bit, and noticed further ahead was slush free - we continued and got home trouble free

Thank god for the all season Michelin Cross Climates!

It started of as a eBay kit, with plywood instead of the steel frame. As time has gone on, it’s been upgraded.

My all-season Michelin CrossClimates will probably need changing next summer...

As I have a new job now that includes motorway commute, I am considering getting both Summer + Winter tyres from Toyota and asking them to store my spare set:

But,

Toyota article a bit confusing :

Auris summer/winter tyres test:

I have seen that video the other year,

I see that Michelin have cross climate + now, for the moment I'm sticking with all season.

I don't want to be caught out like a few yew years ago, had to dash over to Germany in February in the snow. Not a good idea with summer tyres.

With the cross climate I can get drive there without worrying about breaking any laws.

The prices came down for me, when I hung on for the present tyres. I was impressed with the tyres the other weekend, I had expected more fun when trying to set off as the car was facing up hill with snow.

I tried letting the car crawl on its own, but had to use the accelerator slightly and it moved off without any wheel spin or hesitation.

Had all season on the previous car for the same reason, the only difference was the tyres weren’t as difficult size wise to get them cheaper. £240 vs £400.

I had to hunt down some snow last time as it was the first car with traction control and abs, so I wanted to have a play with both :-D
With this car I knew what to expect

When i had the Skoda with Superb with heated windscreen, i wish like mad for frost or ice or sno

None came

Now my Auris parked on road with no heated windscreen, it snows almost every year!

I just have try that trick of leaving some of those silca gel sachets on the dashboard near the vents to slow the build up of moisture on the windscreen so I don’t have to defrost the screen inside and out lol

I think i ever had one car with frost on inside....

Usually a bucket (or 2 ) of warm water sorts out the outside (never needed scraper / de-icer since!)

Neverr re-frosted either

At parents in Bristol

Not leaving until the weekend

Good we missed the heavy show here

Only a light dusting, mostly melted by the morning rain

As new job will be mostly M62 motorway, will be looking at the following again:

1. Warranty bogof - instead of lasting 12months for average 12k miles, my increased commute means i will eat into 24k within the year

2. Winter / summer tyres

 - will look into Toyota supplied and storage of winter/summer tyres

3 . Satnav update maps

 - list on Toyota website some links point direct to TomTom website (i need latest maps in new unfamiliar territory for job)

Let me know how it goes for the map update, just in case if there is one for mother’s Yaris.

I tested the printer by printing a no assembly required working bearing. It spins like the real thing,

Yes.

I don't think that any Auris had Tomtom as standard oem. In a 2012 Auris is it a Touch & Go unit? If so you will probably need to use the Toyota Toolbox programme.
