Cannot engage reverse without grinding noise after longer journeys

Hi, our Aygo has developed a fault which means any journey more than about 5 or so miles, it's really difficult to engage reverse without a grinding noise (sounds like the clutch has not been depressed) but it has been). I've tried double de clutching and waiting a for a at least two seconds before engaging reverse gear but that makes no difference. Short journeys to the shops (a couple of miles or so) no problem at all. In fact the best solution is to switch off engine, engage reverse and start engine. Not a long term solution. Does anyone have any ideas? Are we talking clutch or gearbox issue?

Try engaging 5th or 6th first, then reverse.  It stops the gearbox spinning.

you could try adjusting the cable here is a link

a blank page will be opened, your instructions will be

downloaded straight away ,just open the document

there should be 23mm of free play in the cable.

Thanks for this advice but it's made no difference.

Sorry for the delay in responding. 60k and never been changed. 70% of journeys on motorway.

Probably the clutch not fully disengaging due to the fingers of the pressure plate not being as strong as they used to be.  It could also be adjustemt tho, so have a trusted mechanic look at it for a proper diagnosis.
