Are fuel tanks interchangeable?

Hi there, I have a 2003 Yaris 1.4 D4D. It's just failed its MOT with a damaged fuel tank that needs replacing, an offside front wheel bearing that needs sorting and also a broken offside rear coil spring.

I've been quoted £250 to have them all fixed but I have to source and pay for the fuel tank on top of that myself. The scrap yards around here don't have any diesels in.

My question is would a petrol fit the diesel? I'm not sure where to really look for a replacement tank. The car has only done 100k miles but I need to get back on the road ASAP so considering a new car and potentially scrapping my Yaris. I could maybe get it all fixed and sell it on but not sure if it's worth the hassle and money. 

I assume all in it'd be £400 roughly. Would an 03 D4D fetch that? My car knowledge has gone over the years. Any advice appreciated.

you may be able to get an aftermarket tank

Excellent, thank you very much for your help. I've just messaged 4 people. I was just searching eBay for a tank like an idiot.

I'd rather fix him up and get him back on the road.
