2018 Vitz pregnant wife & help

Hi all

So like a numpty i imported a 2018 safety edition 2 vitz aka yaris

lovely car but i need to know get the mods done to ensure it passes a IVA.

my main 2 issues is the fitting of a fog light switch and taking the speedo out to fit a new facia. Can anyone point me in the right direction as local auto electricians are all busy and wife is 8 months pregnant so i need to get this sorted.

Also if anyone with IVA experience is reading , it would be good to know anything i may have missed but as i have it its the following:

  • Speedo KPH tp MPH
  • Fog light switch to only operate on when main beam is active
  • Tyres need speed rating on them

Thank you again for any help

Gauges, swap them with UK ones and get the mileage corrected

tyres - go and get them changed £220-320 fitted for a set

Rear fog - does it have front fogs ?

Can I swap them for a UK one ? As the canbus would need reprogramming no ?

im not sure if it has front fog how would I check ?

i think tyres should be ok as they are Michelin

anything else I need to think about for IVA process

The dash isn't coded, it's just the mileage that needs to be corrected

fog lights are in the front bumper left and right corners

You’re right I thankfully have fog lights and it’s on stalk so one less job , do you know how I can remove the speedo as that’s the only thing left. Would appreciate it

If you have an adjustable column, drop the steering wheel down the plastic bezel is clipped in place pop it off with a plastic trim tool then it's just 2 screws and then a few clips that hold it in place it's a case of pull and wiggle and remove the 2 plugs on

the back

I did a cluster swap on my uk car

Rear fog - iirc if it does not have a rear fog from factory it needs to be added to the stalk or add a switch to the dash

Thanks so much yes i have discovered it only has front fog lights !!

Took speedo out very easy some clips and 2 screws , so now i will fit a lockwoods facia for MPH.

I have read the japanese manual and it does show a combo stalk with a rear fog light option but what is the part number for this as all the ones i have seen are for UK which is on LHD but JDM is on right hand side. Also where is the actual rear fog light location ?? Manuel shows middle of bumper for GR model. Im assuming there wiring must be present as the rear fog light symbol is on my cluster. I would like to fit the original factory options but am lost as i assumed the fog light was in the rear light. Again any help is appreciated.

GR is a mk4 yaris, or do you mean a GR Sport, the fog light on a 2018 mk3 2nd face lift is on the tailgate iirc

you can go with a stalk or a switch on the dash, you can check to see if it's wired by checking the relay location

A cheap china, rear fog light switch

84140-42080 stalk with auto lights, front and rear fogs (RH lights JDM spec)

the fog light is a led module on the driver's side tailgate lamp  - 8158A-0D610 to fit it you have to remove the knockout from the light housing

Note. These are pics of a LHD car

Mate you are a god , thank you so much weird thing is I have those led lights so I think I’ll need to pull the rear drivers side light out and see if wiring is there , I’m assuming that’s how the rest of the vitz do it that are being driven in UK. Does the bulb need to be red or something ?

so correct me if I’m wrong I can use replacement stalk or cheap switch to go In to pins on current stalk I guess and then fit the knock out.

Again thanks so much Toyota dealers were useless when I queried them !

the rear lights if not used have a blank in them and a little reflector stud

replace the stalk or add a switch

you will need to add a relay as the switches are not designed to carry current

I see I will try look at weekend as I ordered the fog led , in terms of the relay where would I wire it up to in fusebox if I go switch route , as I’m happy to get the stalk but seems a lot of work to take steering wheel off and airbag plus how can be sure the wiring is 100 present for those pins in the new stalk.

so switch may be better would appreciate a final pointer so I can get this sorted before baby arrives 🙂

Bad news my light don’t have the knock out it seems plus I can’t see a wire to connect 🤦‍♂️ bought the led but thinking I need a UK driver side light but even then I’m not sure if wiring would work.

ah i didn't notice that, wiring - if you follow that wire from the bulb holder it should plug into another connector

yeah I followed it and it goes to wiring loom but not any connector as such however there are 2 unpopulated connectors a long one worth quite a few pins and one with 3 pins. Gutted as I ordered the stalk from Japan too !

not sure if I buy a Uk side drivers light and stalk whether it would work ?

I think as per my original message the fog light are on bumper of GR model so my only hope is I can tap in to the other light and fit a switch or get the pin out for the revised stalk

Have a look at the connector that plugs into the stalk take a pic of the wire colours, the stalk is not connected to the bulb its self, it sends a signal to the BCM, the BCM then turns on the relay that turns on the bulb

Don't panic, wait for the stalk (stork) to arrive

on the tailgate, you should have a connector, post a pic of the colours on the plug and socket

behind the glovebox, have a look at connector 3D - Pin 3 should be a green wire - 3rd pin up on the right as you look at it

Ah ok where the tail light is there is 2 unpopulated connectors one with 3 pins (all green) another longer one with multiple colours

my worry is in my manual it shows the  fog light in bumper so I’m wondering if that stalk will only work with a loom which goes to the bumper.

see picture (though it seems to have the older rear lights)IMG_8734.thumb.png.29a0b033d6455104eaa9f1784de8ad83.png

Will I be able to see the wires from the current stalk if I manage to get steering cowling off ? Any ideas on how to take this off or get glove box out to check your pins ?

sorry just really trying to sort this before baby comes 🤦‍♂️

im now gonna follow the light cable back as it comes above those wires so I’ll see if I can find where it comes from

zoom in to picture where label is and you can see the connectors

The green goes from connector 3D behind the glove box and goes to connector OK4 above the head lining on the passenger side

pin 10 on the 14 pin black connector then on to OP2 3 row, 18 pin connector on passenger side of the tailgate

Pin No.6

Ok just had a look and as I said there’s what looks like a 3 pin connector

the reverse light cable runs above this and all the way to a big block at left hand side

There is no other connectors apart from the 2 I showed

so my worry is even if I buy a UK fog light with led where does the 3 pin connector (white one) go as ones on eBay show cables merge and colours and blue/black & red & black

seems most red cables are power and white / black combo is ground

more pictures for reference

I know it can’t be the bigger connector but why is the 3 pin one all green ?

So are you saying if I run a pin from 18 to rear fog and get the correct stalk this should energise the rear fog when front is turned on ?

can I ask at the risk of being very cheeky where abouts you live ? As I’d happily pay you to come and help me with this job and we could post the results here to help folk as I can’t be the only one with this issue.

would appreciate it if you can , I’m in south east london.

The 4 pin and 8 pin that are taped together are actually splices, dark green is tail lights, White/Black are grounds, red is usually reverse

what does the driver's side bulb do ?

now I'm looking at the pics of the JDM Vitz i may have another solution but I need to look in to it

I believe driver side reverse and passenger only come on when gearbox is in reverse.

would a UK light with this connector plug (white 3  pin ) in to the unpopulated one and work ?

IMG_8728.thumb.png.701bfa3ae0c71780aca45ac6c70cb81a.png

i know folk are doing this as loads o. Autotrader but most I believe are doing it with separate switch and relay but all have UK rear light fitted as I can’t see fog light under bumper on right side.

thank you btw I really appreciate your help and know it’s a pain
