Hi people

My friend has a MR2 G plate. She has taken to the stealership and had a service. It has come back with loads of niggly bits.

The bit that concerns me is the alterantot. She was quoted £900 fitted!! :ffs:

Is this correct or are they taking the pess?

Also if someone can recommend a specialist in the Dartford area, it would be very much appreciated.

He's an ex-Toyota Mechanic and really knows the MR2. His wife has one and he has serviced pretty much all of the Northants MR2's (club owners)

Holy hell fire! What are they charging for? Half a new car?

How much are they charging for the alternator itself, brcause it's not that big a job.

they need reporting to whoever you report this sort of thing too......

sparkly new alternator from toyota is £295

2nd hand everywhere sells them for £50, its and under an hour job to replace the alternator if you know how to do it.

my dad got a reconditioned one for £60 and he threw it on himself...sorted

I have a spare re-conditioned one sitting in my garage mate...

Failing that, I have had a number of dealings with alternator problems, im sure I can point you in the direction of a good spares dealer.

You should be looking to pay about £90, thats what I have been paying when I supply the alternator myself...

I am glad I found this thread!

I called Richard and he quoted £60.00 to replace both front struts (i am supplying KYB gas units) labour cost only even so, other quotes where double that! Whilst he is at it i have asked him to check to see if the pre cats are in place and if so to remove them.

Spoke to Richard (who is an ex Toyota mechanic) He removed the pre cats along with fitting the new front struts for the princely sum of £125.00 (pre cats where £55.00) which is a good price, i was quoted £120.00 just to do the struts by two other garages i know! This included replacing two snapped studs in the Manifold.

The work is excellent, no marks on my freshly painted wheels and the car drives perfectly. Sounds slightly deeper as well - Result!

Based on this i would thoroughly recommend them to anyone in the Northampton area, he knows his MR2's inside and out.
