Instrument Cluster

Have a 2004 Prius T4. Up until now no problems (other than a couple of technical recalls and sticking calipers). However, the instrument cluster has just started to intermittently blank out (at start up) or freeze (during the journey). The 'temp' and 'current' boxes display no values or freeze. The 'Battery charged level box' is either blank or frozen. The 'wheels' rotate but there is no flow information. I can move between screen options (climate, audio, consumption etc) but without the 'beep' - although none will function. "Air conditioner is off" screen appears regularly. None of the other electrics (eg windows, wipers, reversing sensor, 'EV' mode etc) seem affected. Has anyone encountered the same problem or any ideas as to what the issue is ? Could this affect the Battery ?
