Parts King.

I find it very interesting that the contributor Parts King would appear to be a Toyota Dealer in Chester, Wrexham and Queensferry. I would say it is in fact unique for such a firm to give free advice to car owners in this way. My special interest is the fact all three of these destinations are within two hours of my home, and I am tempted to put my Rav business there way. I have had a 10k service already and wondered what their charge would be inclusive for this service; and also what the inclusive charge would be for the 20k. service. As I am considering buying a caravan, and would not entertain having a tow bar fitted by anyone other than a Toyota specialist, because of any additional work required, such as isolating parking sensors and any other matters, I am also interested in what their charge would be for this work.

Thanks for the comments John1944

We are indeed a Toyota dealer and I give advice on all sorts of issues. As the title suggests, I am the Parts-King :D:

I tend to leave the servicing pricing etc to my colleagues, as the level of enquiries coming in via PM and email can be a bit over facing at times

If you would like prices on servicing, please ring our call centre on 01244 821031 for Queensferry or 01978 720074 for Wrexham, you can also EMAIL here via our website

Kingo

My 10k cost £133, but they found a screw in the tyre; which doubled the cost. The screw inciidentally was brand new.

Are the diesel services more then the petrol? :g:

My 10k service (before I bought car, but got receipt) was £85 in 2006. My 30k was more though at £108 (inc 10% discount)

Why would u want to undo the reversing sensors,if u go for detachable towball which is advised it wont pick up sensors, when my towball is on it dosent interfere with my sensors anyway. I had a switch put on my rav to turn off sensors. Also check out Witters towbars, they are a good make and a good price.

Hope you have fun when you get your caravan,we have,of to france again soon.

Not being funny but I don't think many Toyota dealers could be considered experts with towbar fitting due to the fact that they don't do many which is not surprising as the cost is around £680 from them :o , one Toyota place close to me has never done one on a 4.3 Rav

A good independent towbar fitting place will do one for around half the price, neighbour had one fitted last week to his 4.3 from same place I had mine done last year and it was £350. As mentioned there is a switch in the boot that turns the sensors off if need be so that is not an issue. Also bear in mind you aren't getting a "Toyota" towbar anyway but an aftermarket one that has been rebadged.

Re the discount, my local dealership have a discount scheme where you buy a "4Life" card for £25 and then everything you buy from them from that time on (except a car  ) has 10% off. Don't know if any other dealers have something similar?

And re Towbar - I would go along with Bezzers comment to be honest. A towbar/trailer specialist could do a top job fitting a towbar, esspecially as they are all modular designs nowadays and all the fittings are are 'follow the numbers'

We have a similar "Lindop Care" scheme for older cars/ loyal customers where we offer discounts and incentives

Whilst Toyota supply a "Modular" type Towbar, the same cannot be said for so called towbar experts. The wiring kits supplied by Toyota are modular and you just click them in place, your local towbar man will have generic kits that usually get scotch locked into your wiring causing long term problems with earthing etc. I would defy any "expert" to fit the Toyota towbar and wiring (correctly) in less than a day on a RAV4 . The wiring is run under the carpets and there is a lot of work involved, book time is 8.5 hours for bar and double electrics, hard to beleive I know, but that is the reason the bar is so expensive on a RAV4.3

Hi Kingo, I was meaning a specialist using Toyota - or the OEM version (Brink on the 4.2), not cobbling up some bar themselves. I would not recommend that or have that done on my car. I was thinking more along the lines ofthe hourly rates of a Toyota shop being very often a lot more then a towbar fitting company, whose staff need a much narrower range of skills so prob get paid less.

I have no doubt over the quality of the work done by main dealers, which is why I have always used them for servicing over the 'local' garages for our cars for last 10-15 plus years.

As part of the deal in getting my 57 plate T180 from the Toyota dealer, I negotiated the Toyota detachable towbar and parking sensors to be thrown in. They managed to get the towbar wiring wrong on two occasions, and managed to disable the parking sensors in the process. So on one hand, the Toyota dealer isn't necessarily as "expert" as you would hope; but on the other hand, if things go wrong, it'll be sorted out (eventually) with the correct OEM parts. And it was a day's work for them putting the towbar/ electrics on.

Just joined the forum and am looking for some advice on RAV4 headlights. I will moving to Brussels soon and am anticipating that the Belgian vehicle registration procedure will require me to change the dipping of the headlights. Can they be adjusted on the RAV4 (it's the 2002 NRG model) or is it LHD units that are needed ??
