So there's a year 2000 Prius for 3 thousand pounds with 65k on the clock for sale. I am poor so can just afford this and want to reduce my fuel bill.

Sure there are better mpg vehicles I could target but I just LOVE Toyotas.

Commute is 40 miles a day in total, 90 percent motorway.

For those of you who may have owned one of these older models, what should I look out for?

Currently drive an absolutely mint 98 Avensis 2.0 automatic which I drive like Miss Daisy but the petrol cost is still hurting.

Any comments welcome

p.s. I think they are very ugly but I don't care :)

I have a 2000 Prius.

Things to be aware:

Make sure is a NHW11 model and not a NHW10 model (this was manufactured for the japanese market only)= the diagnostick equipment may not work on that model

Ask a Toyota Hybrid specialist to check the condition of the HV battery- I recommend to buy a car that is in everyday use as storing cars for long periods of time could dammage that battery( I replace mine and is v expensive)

I get at the moment around 55-56 mpg in town. I believe that if you drive mostly on the motorway, either keep it under 100Km/h(65Mph) or I recommend a diesel. Prius might get 45-50 MPG on the motrway.

Any more questions fire away...
