100 W Headlamps

Has anyone fitted 100W headlamps to their Celica. The lights at 55W are crap and bought some 100W ones from eBay to try but now i am finding out is is illegal to use these and the main beam are only 65W!! I dont want to blind other drivers with them! :( Does anyone also know if it will burn out my electrics or melt the bulb holder? Any help would be appreciated.

I used to have 100w in a car years ago. didn't cause me any probs, but as you say, they are illegal and a suitably minded MOT tester would fail you.

You can get perfectly good 55w bulbs, high powered with a long throw - my celica used to have Halfords 'Super Brilliance' (i think!! The ones that are around 17.99 each), and they were more than adequate as long as the lenses were clean!
