'02 Avensis Low Idle Speed

Hi,

I have an '02 2Ltr Auto Avensis. For awhile now it's idle speed, at times, is too low, although it very very rarely actually stalls. Trying to analyse the problem this weekend I noted that:

a. On starting (when cold) idle speed was OK (i.e. approx 1000rpm)

b. Once warm, on coming to a stop the idle speed drops to about 400rpm. After about 4-5 secs it slowly increases back to the expected 675-700rpm (so whatever is causing the problem the ECU can correct after awhile)

The spark plugs have been replaced recently as has the idle air control valve.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Ben

hello BEN

mine criates 1900 rpm at cold starting and smoothly drops upon warm up. in winter time especially when cold (below ZERO C) the initial starting can be at 1900 or 2000 rpm but after a while thhe rpm might be sharply dropped due to vapours condensation on the each spark during ignition. but after a few seconds the rpms go up again. the normal idle rpm is 750 of mine. wait for another posts on here.

cheers/Igor

Try seeing this:

You can reset the ECU by taking the Battery +lead off for ten-twenty minutes (I do not know if it makes any difference but I switched the headlights on first before removing the lead - read somewhere that it worked and seemed to do the job)
