2017 Radio not Compatible with 2013 Verso

I'm a bit gutted but hoping someone here may able to help me. I've got a 2013 Verso with the CD player and wanted the 2017+ Radio with the slightly bigger screen. Anyway here's me assuming it would be a straight swap but unfortunately not. As you can see some of the sockets are different. When I plugged the ones that fit in, I found that DAB didn't work, iPhone wasn't recognised and the rear camera didn't work.

Is there a simple way to get this to work on my 2013 Verso without having to start cutting wires?

DAB you just need an adapter - old type is a Hirose GT5 (square pin), the later type is a SMB in a Toyota housing

Reverse camera - no problem, its the same connector type - there are a few different setups - what's the model number and build date of the new unit

Phone connection - did you try to pair the phone or was the bluetooth greyed out

please post some pics of the existing plugs/wiring

old - 12 pin is for a cd-changer - 16 pin is for the camera*

Do not cut any wires you just need to move some pins about

Hi, thanks for your reply. Is the DAB adapter easily available, if so what should I look for?

The plug for what I believe is the reverse camera is a 16pin plug and it doesn't fit any other available socket. Is it suppose to go in the 24 pin socket?

I managed to get the iPod working after spraying contact cleaner 👍

Any help on this would be appreciated. Below is a photo of the 2017 Radio and the other is the plug on my car that doesnt fit anywhere

Many thanks for the information. Here's a photo of my dab connector. I was looking to buy the following, cut the female side off and then attach it to the Toyota housing. But I'm struggling to source one, no one will sell me that connector on its own. Are you saying the female will attach inside that connection?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/363774842303?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=sxJhbPuHSjK&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=E7Ou2LEbS0u&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

With regards to the camera, I was looking to create a connector between my connector to the new radio, 16pin to 24pin convertor. The handbrake wire on the 28pin connector has made it slightly more difficult now. Would I need to extend/transfer the handbrake cable over to the 28pin then?

Just out of interest and apologies if this is a stupid question....with the handbrake wire what's that actually for with regards to the reverse camera?

All you need to do is remove the pins from the 16 pin and clip then into the 24 pin, you do this by releasing the locking tab, then use a pin/needle or de-pining tool

the DAB connector on the newer type is basically an SMB connector in a Toyota housing

Ok, really appreciate the info. So what I want to do is create adaptor to go in-between the car cables and the new stereo. With that handbrake cable I think I'm going to use one of these spring connectors so it the can be easily remove if I decide I want to toggle between old stereo and new. With regards to the SMB connection, does that fit directly in to the back of the new stereo without fuss? Please see my diagram of what I'll be creating.....1619003_Toyotadiagram.thumb.jpg.5f683324d541e601b9e79e0a99b916f6.jpg

Getting hold of the connectors is the hard bit, i take it you do not have the 24 pin connector in your car

Sorry, slight mistake the handbrake should come from the 16pin.

No there's not a 24 pin, pretty sure. The 2013 Verso seems to have the 16pin, on eBay the 2014 radio like mine has the 24pin. I ordered some adapters from AliExpress so hopefully they'll fit. So would that SMB for directly into the radio without any messing?

The GT5 is incorrect its actually a HFC connector

Right, just checked eBay and Ali and can't seemed to find it other than your link.

Here's another photo of the connector.....

I used that link and got a quote for the cable and it's £34!!

I might give it a miss, I don't really use DAB but thought it would better if I'd sorted it together. Cheers for your help, will update when I've sorted the camera

@flash22I

My pieces have arrived, I manage to get my dab working but the reverse camera doesn't work. I put it in reverse but the screen doesn't do anything. I've made sure I've routed the wires correctly as per your diagrams. I'd appreciate it if you could help me out. Many thanks

Sorry to bombard you with these messages. I was just looking at some 2014/15 verso stereos with the 24 pin and I noticed that the black and red are the other way around. So the picture shows position 11 is black and position 12 is black. What do you think?

Go by the pinouts, it's just the colours that are different on the verso

Ok, if the wires are in the right place, would the type of wire used in my make shift adapter cause it not to work?

Add also, what's the worst that could happen if I was to swap the black and the red around? As in would it short anything? Apologies for so many questions. TIA

Shoving 6v up the camera feed wouldn't be advisable - cable size shouldn't matter as long as it's not too small

without the camera connected, go into the hidden service menu - function check - look for the Rev status - check that it changes when you shift into reverse

So without my adapter, and attaching to the wiring minus the 16pin (including the pink handbrake)  I'm getting off in Rev.

Before I tested the new, I tested my current and REV shows On when out into reverse

That's meant to read the parking wire isn't plugged in to the 28 pin. Again TIA

@flash22v

I've now tried it again, and with the parking pink wire in the 28pin (via my adapter and not plugging the 24pin) and again REV is Off

The radio isn't seeing the reverse signal then

do you have a pin 2 on the 28 pin on the car plug ?
