You'll need to fit a relay for the compressor of the airhorn, as I suspect the wiring and fuse won't be up to dealing with the initial current surge. I don't know if there's any sort of BUS system that could also cause problems.

I found a particularly loud horn that I fitted to my ten-year-old Yaris that hasn't caused any problems, so far!

Hi Bob thank you for your reply,I had the air horn fitted to my Yaris before this one by simply using the horn connecter and increasing the fuse size but the new Yaris horn is pretty impossible to get to so it is more complicated to use the relay has then I will have to drill to get the wiring into the car and then a switch inside.

The horn is a simple circuit 1 live wire from the relay, and it uses the body as ground, the relay is in the main fuse box under the bonnet

If I remember correctly (Anchorman) did this and showed pictures of where he fitted the airhorns someone may be able to point the way.

I can’t really tell but all the factory wiring diagrams are available to view for €4 an hour on Toyota Techdoc.  I think the relay that’s fitted will be good enough for your air horn.   It’s one of the easiest bumpers to get off but I recommend warming the bumper under the headlights before detaching them.

Not that I use it much but I quite like the sound of the cross horn, it reminds me of John Inman, “ I’m free” ….

While I'm not entirely sure about the wiring color for the horn on your Yaris Cross, I can totally understand the desire to upgrade to a single airhorn like the Dewalt horn. It could definitely add some oomph to your setup! You might want to consider consulting your vehicle's manual or reaching out to a mechanic for specific wiring details.

Can you not some how get to that crap horn without taking off the bumper.  There just seems to be a flimsy piece of plastic above where the horn is when looking at the horn from above just inside the engine bay ?

I also just tested the alarm on my YC, so that I know what to listen out for.  It's just the horn that sounds, but I have noticed that when the horn is activated by the alarm, it's FAR better than when you just press the horn in the usual way.  I thought it was my imagination,  so I got my wife to pop out and give her opinion and it is FAR better sound, sort of like dual horn sound.  If the horn sounded like that when pressing the centre of the steering wheel, I'd be happy with it.

No you can’t get at the horn without taking the bumper off because the air intake blocks your path.  The alarm is much louder because it uses a second sounder.  I’ll find you a photo.  Stand by…..

This is the feeble single vibrating disc;

and this is the second one down under the passenger headlight;

Not to annoy you 😉.  The pip squeak horn meets legal requirements and the additional sounder meets the requirements for the alarm/immobiliser as long as it can utilise the pip squeak.  I would think Thatcham are behind that.

Totally get that, but I'm sure the horn in the RAV4 and the Land cruisers also meet those legal requirements, so I'll have the horn that the Land cruiser has 😂

Those models still have vibrating disc horns but they have them in pairs.

Wow. These horn threads bring back memories. About 5 decades ago I upgraded my Morris 1100 with air horns, because it seemed a good idea.

Now I don't even know what my horn sounds like - the MoT tester should. I learned that if I need to blow it, I messed up and generally it's too late to make a difference anyway, or if I want to blow it it's just road rage because someone else messed up. The roads are full of people - they often get it wrong, so forgive, or they are pillocks, and you won't change that with noise ... Chill.

Yeah I’ve heard you say that before and while I have great respect for you, I think that is one of the most idiotic statements I’ve ever heard.  You want to try Hyde Road in Manchester.  Somebody said on here the other day that in some of these multicultural heartlands that they are taking tests for each other or not taking tests at all and I’ve heard that from a copper too.  The horn is a defence mechanism and I can assure you, without using it I would have been run into several times.

The last accident I had I used my horn to tell the person I am next to you as they were trying to turn right on the round about from the left lane that was a left only lane. They hit me and when I said to them did you not hear me honking my horn. The comment I got back was "O thats what that sound was" DOH!!!

So in that instance I dont think the volume of the horn was an issue more like the driver had no idea what the sound was to even react.

No person on this planet is ever going to convince me that a suitable loud enough horn is not essential.

Used "sensibly" to warn others of possible danger etc is a must tool to have in the car.  If not used sensibly, it just invites road rage.

Not everyone will even hear the loudest of horns because they have their sound system on full, blimey, I still see some drivers with headphones on inside the car and are totally oblivious to their surroundings....just so dangerous when they cannot hear the emergency vehicles approaching and safely plan to manoeuvre out of their way. And I'll refrain from properly airing my views about the Muppets on bicycles and those deadly e scooter riders who also wear them.🤬🤬🤬

Spot on Bobby.

As you have mentioned "Muppets", a.k.a. Lycra louts, I often give them a polite warning, only a short beep when approaching from behind to overtake. i.e. let them know I'm there. More often than not I will be the recipient of dirty looks, certain finger signals and/or verbal abuse as I pass them.
