Hi my 99 g6r is going to be due a service in the next few weeks and i would very much like to keep the toyota history, the mileage will be 40k and the car was serviced (including cam belt) 8months ago by the garage i bought if from. so how much can i expect toyota to charge assuming thay find no major problems (they wont i hope) im looking at pads, oil, air filter do i need a pollen filter (do i have a pollen filter?) so has anyone got an idea (or even better an experience of a toyota service on this model) all iwant to know is how much is it gonna cost me to get that stamp in my book barring any suprises! all input will be very much appreciated

i have a corolla t3 03 reg. i paid £120 for its 20,000mls service. at a toyota dealer. was charged for screen wash, even though i topped it up that morning, before i took the car in. a few checks here and there, change the oil 30 mins work. not impressed.

This is what im worried about i dont really want to be paying 300-350 quid for a service at toyota when the garage ive used for years (who are really good they specialise in modified and competition preparation) could cost less than 200. but we all know that when i come to sell my car a FTSH goes along way, or does it? is the car worth more with a FTSH than with just FSH??

just get your local garage to stamp your book, my brother in law owns a garage on the isle of mull. the hourly rates quoted by the big boys is a rip off, as long as your garage uses toyota parts, i dont think half these guys could fix your car if it broke down at the side of the road.( the so called technitions ) the only reason i am using mr t is i dont have any arguments over the warranty. i have been back to mr t about 5 times, in less than a year ive had the car! :censor:

How old is your car?

If it's older than 8 years, I'd say go to an independant garage but still get them to stamp your book.

I would also be inclined to start looking at self servicing from about 10 years on and keep the receipts to proove you've done the work. Handy to do it just before MOT's as then you'd have dates on receipts to match annual servicing... Just a thought. Also self servicing ensures that it's done and done properly to your own standards B)

Its a 99T with 38k and with full toyota history barring the service that was done when i bought it. I "popped" (46mile round trip!!) into my local toyota dealer and asked about a service, the answer was seeing as it had a full service when i bought it i.e cambelt (5yrs) pads, oil, air and so on that it only needed an intermediate service and that the fixed price was £135. I got a funny feeling that for my £135 i was only going to get a service similar to hoppys! but my main concern is that when i come to sell the car in a couple of years i think that i will have more of a chance of selling a car thats lowered on alloys with a stainless exhaust and an after market induction kit and a nice stereo with a full toyota history rather than a history from a independent garage (if i was looking for a car it would make a difference to me, it means(to me) that yea it may be a bit boy racerish but at least his mate on a car mechanics YTS course hasnt been looking after it!)

A lot of main dealer franchises round were I live have many 'Young Urchins' on training schemes employed at their establishments.

Plus in a recent 'Which report' on garages in the Shropshire area a lot of Main Franchise agencies (of all marques) were critisicised for charging but not doing certain items, whereas little garages were highly commended for being more dedicated and focused to their customers.

Having said all of the above I must add that the Toyota dealer that was in Telford had some truly brilliant and very knowledgeable mechanics.

Also with reference to the 'YTS Urchins' I realise they must start/train somewhere...

... but not on my cars

Yea sodit im gonna take it to the garage ive always used. after all when i walked in there 6 years ago with a boggo 1.9 205gti a few months later they started suggesting mods and when i sold it last year i had spent about 8k with them and was getting a solid 16mpg from a 2.2 205gti!! so who knows what will happen with/to the corolla! maybe a FTSH isnt everything!

79p a litre you dont know how good you got it!! cheap nasty dirty tescos juice is 83.9 here! and at the time i could afford it because i lived where i worked rent free so the 205 was just a trackdayer and B road blaster (and it did blast, 202@flywheel from a 8v! torque steer in 4th before qualife ATB Lsd) but time moves on and a crippling mortgage (poxy 1 bedroom flat) and a misses who refuses to go anywhere near a bucket seat and a 5point harness plus the commute to work forced me into sensible corolla land (and a zxr750 for the weekends!) thats why servicing costs are so very important at the mo especially with interest rates what they are (and going to be)

yeh it happens to us all, often wonder how all the young ones on this forum, can afford such nice cars. your petrol might be a wee bit dearer the now, this is the cheapest its been for ages up here, one thing you know you will get is some decent weather in the summer. that far south, us rain, rain and more rain! and the council has got a cheek to be putting the water rates up again. :censor:

YEA damn right my water rates and council tax is shocking but when it comes to the weather i cant complain, i have a crappy stressful job but at least when i get home from work in the summer i can go down the beach which is only about 20secs away (seriously it is only 20secs away!) i moved down here 8yrs ago from the "grim" north and never looked back (nightmare traffic in the summer though)
