1986 VW jetta 2.0 TSR

1989 VW Golf Syncro 4x4 66k 1.9 TSR crap fuel economy rotten chassis, sold it to TSR for one of their projects

What is TSR? The only mk2 Jetta's I know of had the same engine range available to the mk2 Golf, even the syncro and GTI 16v, not heard of a Jetta Rallye or G60 mind you, but doesnt mean they dont exist.... Is TSR an engine company who did a conversion for you?

Golf Syncro - very cool cars indeed, not alot of them left now! Out of interest, what on the chassis rotted? Not heard of a mk2 Golf chassis needing alot of welding before, only if its been badly repaired from an accident etc.

You've got a 20v 4A-GE? nice. Considering tuning my engine... Was thinking of ITBs and 20v head, apparently will rev to 10k!

TSR are a VW tuning company up the M5 from me they specialise in engine upgrades and modifying veedubs and more recently seats audis etc. there are a lot of cars out there with TSR engines especially around here. the jetta had one, i can only assume cos it had done 230k the engine was put in years before i bought it. the jetta was a dog it leaked like a seive and drank fuel at an unbeleivable rate. the rot on the syncro was more or less from the handbrake down the length of the prop shaft +viscous coupling and extended to the sill on the passenger side. i bought it from a farmer who's arthritus was to bad to drive it it had sat in a field for best part of 2yrs had 66k FVWSH and 12months mot for £650 then bought a secondhand 1.9 TSR engine for £450. twelve months later when i realised it was uneconomical to mot TSR bought it for £600 cos the 3dr syncro shells are worth £400 whatever the condition.

1st Car - 1996 1.1 Fiesta Classic, cheap to insure but had to have a new engine 2 weeks after getting it, developed numerous rattles and squeaks and spent more time off the road getting fixed...also wouldnt start in a multi storey and left me stranded alone til Mr RAC came and got me :( Pic: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v11/blue_r_best/ro.jpg

2nd Car - 2004 1.0 Yaris..love it, but is going within the next week..

3rd Car - 2005 1.3 Yaris Blue :D

1954 Ford Popular - black situpandbeg sidevalve. Cart springs. OK unless you hit a camber on the road.

1960 Ford Popular - sidevalve, engine blew, steering snapped, vacuum wipers, but apart from that a decent car!

1962 Woseley 1500 - wonderful motor. Comfortable and fast (0-60 in 24 secs!) Fell apart.

1964 Viva 1200 box shape. Comfort and rust combined.

1972 Mini 1000 - my first new car. Great until I put a tiny steering wheel in without the biceps to turn it.

1973 Imp and

1974 Imp - had 2 in quick succession as my father fancied one as well. Good engine once it warmed up. Better handling than the mini but less roadholding.

1974 Viva 1800 2 door - quick and thirsty. Huge doors and massive wind noise.

1976 Honda Civic and

1977 Honda Civic - for same reason as the Imp. Tremendous engines, pity the bodywork didn't match them. Metallic paint didn't work too well then.

1978 Morris Marina (really!) - bought it new as well. Leaked like a sieve. Dealer bought it back.

1978 Austin Maxi - heavy as lead but great early people carrier and good on motorways.

1979 Alfasud - performance and yet more rust. The driver's door would leave a 2 inch gap at 70 but strangely no draught or wind noise.

1978 Viva Estate 1300 - horrible yellow, good looking coupe type styling and versatile but sooo sloow.

1980 Renault 14 - fast but unreliable. Rust, rust and more rust. Gearbox went.

Then I went to Toyotas. :)
