This is easy, mine did not drive

When I can remember the 30 odd cars I have had, I will put them on here (maybe minus a couple of

french ones or Chatman might get revenge :D )

Paul, re the nedflanders, I think i've still got bits in my garage, well roofbars anyway, could not make them

fit the rav. May have to dump !

Dave. ;)

Ok folks I'm playing the special dispensation card from Paul since my folks never drove. So far I've remembered

20. So it all starts in 1979........................this may take a while.

Mk2 Ford Cortina 1600E (share of with my mate) , Hillman Avenger 1600

Mk3 Ford Cortina 1600L , Mk3 Ford Cortina 1600 XL

Mk3 Ford Cortina 2000E , Mk5 Ford Cortina 2000GL

Mk1 Vauxhall Astra , Volkswagen Golf 1800 GL

Peugeot 309 Sport , Renault 19

Volvo 440 LE , Citreon ?

Volvo 440 XEi, Renault Megane sport Coupe

BMW 318 SE , Vauxhall Astra SXi

Landrover Freelander 1.8 ? , Landrover Freelander GS 2.5 V6

Ford Focus C Max LX D , Ford Focus 1.6 Sport

Current Rav 4 :lol::lol::lol:

Ok, let the p*ss taking begin :boxing:

Dave

Citreon

Renault Megane Sport  :

Peugeot 309

Nedflanders (and a V6 I bet that drank like a fish in water   )

Ok better get these out of the way then.....(playing my amnesty card as well) :D :D

FIAT 126 Sport (Fix It Again Tomorrow) Rapped it around lamp post on black ice

Ford Cortina 2000E (full lengh sun roof..wicked B) )

Opel Manta GTE 2.0 (Black and lovely got me my first 6 points)

Austin Montego 1.6 (Exhaust fell of at hanger lane)

Ford Fiesta Ghia (start of baby years)

Ford Sierra GLS 2.0

Start of company cars.....

Ford Fiesta 1.25

BMW 525 (Bloody tank) had while waiting for 306...ex MD car and knackered...

Peugeot 406 Estate 2.0 (Had this while they ordered me another 306 Meridian estate as the first fell of the car carrier delivering it :crybaby: :crybaby: )

Peugeot 306 Meridian estate 1.9 DT

Peugeot 306 19DT

Renault Laguna Sport 1.8

Renault Scenic 1.8 Privallage

Renault Magane VVT 1.6 (fat ar** one and could scalp you on the boot lid....ouch!!! and quirky gadgets as well)

Current RAV4 D4D........

A Fiat 126 wrapped around lamp-post - what ??? You showing off that you had a stretched version long enough to go around a lamp-post??!!

Had a Montego at one point when working for BT - great on the straight but had problems if the car had to go round corners.....

I'd a Peugeot 205 - great car but traded it in for a new Citroen BX Estate - nice car. So nice it got stolen when 6 months old and driven around a field, over boulders, and through trees. Unfortunately Arnold Clark made one of the worst repair jobs in his life and I never saw the BX again as I sold it to Arnold whilst it was in '000s of bits on his workshop floor. I think it was the first diesel engine he'd encountered.

I'll need to remember wot company cars I had now....

The old man also had a Hillman Avenger - rust red- and a blue Sunbeam Rapier (old style from the 60s) with the 1600 engine.

Hi Paul, old Fords eh, what can you say love them to bits. Every time I see an old 1600E or 2000E

I still go "wow". Still cool, look at life on mars, all be it if you were a cortina fan you knew that was

GXL and not an E as the E's never came out till later (pardon the pun). Is this nostalgia or am I being

sad again :lol::lol::lol:

Anyway you dont kid us for 1 minute mate, bloody Mk1 GTI my a&*e  what about the ones

before the golf ?

Right after a word with my Therapist, here goes:

Allegro 1.3 White - Drank oil by the bucket. Also a puncture magnet, ended up carrying 2 spares. Rolled everywhere like a drunken sailor on a stromy sea. Sold to an old guy who gave it the complete inspection, when he pulled the dipstick out it was as dry as a desert, he squinted at it and declared that was fine! I ran to the bank with the money!

Mk 2 Capri 1.6 GL Red, Black Vinyl roof - Beautiful car all washed and polished. Unfortunately it liked standing still as well. At first a pig to start cold, new plugs, leads, dizzy and coil sorted that. And them it became a pig to start hot, new carb sorted that. I was on first name terms with the AA by this time. Handling on the orginal Firestones in the dry was tail happy, in the wet murderous! Goodyears tamed that. Met a swift and violent end when a low flying Rover 214 knock the whole back axle six inches sideways!

Mk 1 Fiesta 1.1 L White - All I could afford after the Capri was shovelled off the road. Plucky little solider that refused to die. Thrashed it everywhere. People could hear it at max revs miles away. Had a compression test done on it and the best cyl was only 17%, use to say it was trying to become a 1.3! Had to unplug the crackcase breather from the air filter and feed it under the car because the carb didn't like sucking on oil fumes, only to plumb it in again at MOT time.

Sold the car to my brother, who a couple of years later sold it on and I would still see it driving around town after that!

Mk 2 XR2 1.6 Red - Loved that car. Never any trouble but sold it in less than a year because it felt underpowered. Didn't help that my mate had a fuel inj'd Astra GTE.

Series 2 Escort RS Turbo 1.6 Black - Got me into some trouble that car. It nearly sucked my mate out of the rear seat when I was doing 125 with the sunroof open! Scared the life out of family and friends but I loved it. Munched it way though tyres and front brake disc's. Disc's would last less than 20K and a good front set of sticky Yokohama's would be shot in under 7K. Still the Recaro's in that car are the best car seats I've ever had. It only let me down once when the alternator died just outside the car park of a U2 concert in Leeds!

Puma 1.7 Black - Where the RS was raw power the Puma was finesse. Couldn't match the RS in a straight line but in the twisty bits nothing could catch it. But again after a few years the underpowered feeling got me again and the fact that water was filling the drivers footwell. So p/ex'd after a few weeks of dry weather!

330 Ci Silver - Still my favourite! Relaxed and comfortable when you wanted it to be, blow the doors off anything when you gave it the message. Miss that car, lot's.

X3 3.0 auto Blue - Think ex-press car, it was fulled loaded with every toy, Sat-nav, TV, the lot. I saved £14K on list when I got it six months old. For a big heavy truck it could move fast and handle well but not for long. Reset the trip comp, give it the beans and watch the mpg dancing in single figures. Even driving like a nun, 21-22mpg was the best I could get. It just became to expensive to run, with a raft of bills on the horizon (tax, servicing etc) it had to go.

RAV XT4 2.2 D4D Silver - And the story continues, so far so good. Does just like it says on the tin and more. Very happy.

Reading through this string and I remembered that I bought an Austin A35 saloon. Cheap and without looking too closely. Mechanically almost ok but the floor was becoming detached from the car, as was the handbrake lever.

Total laugh    - I drove it 16 miles along the M8, doing no more than 30mph, to a friendly MOT garage, to be told that it was needing welded (kinda knew that) and that only 1 brake worked :shutit: , and it wasn't the handbrake. It got moved to a guy on the south side of glasgow (what a character) who was able to do amazing things to renovate cars. Cos the car looked ok, it got used for a BBC TV production. However, it wasn't economic to repair so I never saw it again.

Chatman,

I started at the bottom, the very depths of the bottom, in fact the black region, beyond the very depths of the bottom, with the Agro.

It only makes me more grateful for what I have now. Character building!:lol::lol:

You should know all about that.....you had french cars!

But that Manta GTE is looooooooovely  I should have had one of those instead of that money pit Capri.

Dave,

If you start the TOC RAV4 Pink Floyd club.......count me in :yahoo::yahoo::thumbsup:

Paul,

205 GTI's, Astra GTE's had some good times playing with those guys, depending on the state of my tyres at that particular moment. :yahoo:

Golf GTI's had put on to much lard by then......they were easy meat :D

Wonderful Dave :toast: Thank you

Nearly went to see Floyd on the Division Bell tour but I asked my mate, he hesitated.....and we all know what happens to he who hesitates :crybaby:

Re work: I was the other way around, lost wieght going from days has an apprentice to shift work. Must of been those big meals in the canteen the dayworkers enjoyed :eat:

But now that I'm stuck in the control room most of the time, it takes great will power to avoid browsing on junk all shift!

To get us back on track, these were the vans we were using in work when I joined shift, Hyundai Pony pick-ups (in that shade of Red as well)

Back in the 1960's we came across an old piece of paper with a list of cars my father had in the 1930's and 1940's which I updated in the 1970's with the ones he'd had since and I finally found it again yesterday.
