Ultimately there is no point TOC even contemplating a stand unless people are going to show up!

Perhaps a "Will you be attending JAE" poll needs to be sorted.... bearing in mind Les & Anne won't be there, someone needs to sort out a stand & a pitch etc for those who will.

I'm not volunteering (yet) but I will if numbers are sufficient enough to warrant it.

I'm the last person who wants to see TOC-JAE 2008 suffer a death.

i wouldnt be that dramatic, its about an extra hour of driving, from peterborough i know it sounds much buts it really not for one time in a year to attend to a great car show.

I'm sensing a lot of indifference/negativity to this announcement - somewhat reminiscent of the posts when it was moved to Peterborough from Billing.

OK, so it's not quite in the middle of the country anymore. Peterborough was not an option anymore so somewhere else had to be found or the event would be consigned to folklore. I'm sure that many venues were explored by the organisers before they found this one.

Location doesn't seem to matter as much as attitude anyway. Some people will travel to the ends of the earth for a meet, some won't even venture 10 miles ( even though they say they will be there ). This is always the case with meets unfortunately.

Remember it's a 3 day event ( without the poncey horses ), not a one day thing or a quick overnight. The Northern Region have had trips to Castle Combe, Bath etc - none of which were particularly close - for a heck of a lot less than JAE offers.

It is the premium show of the year for the Jap Car clubs. If that's not worth a bit of travelling then that begs the question 'why have a car if you're not prepared to drive it? '

I've been to JAE every year since 2003 (except when my alternator failed and I couldn't get a replacement). I even drove through floods on the M50 last year just before they closed it to vehicles. And one year I had a fire in the engine bay but still manage to get there. But this is just a step too far. I don't want to have to drive my car though salt water when the Strood (manmade causeway onto the island) gets flooded at high tide. What happens when someone has an accident and needs to be hospitalised?

I'm pretty sure that situations like this have occurred before and mechanisms are in place to deal with such an eventuality. It's only the 21st Century !

946 mile round trip... and an 8 hour drive to get there... possibly for the tide to be in then god knows how long to wait to get into JAE.

I feel let down by JAE, hardly a central location... Newark looked to be quite promising, I have asked on the JAE forum for the reason it wasn't picked as the venue. (I'm ZZW30 on the forum)

The date also doesn't suit us as we have already had to put our dates in to our employers, unless these can be changed at short notice we wouldn't have been able to attend anyway.

They say it's to be bigger and better than before.. but in reality I think they have just alienated the full northern half of the UK... time to organize an Alternative.

Les.. I'm agree with you on this one... a JAE alternative camping trip for TOC (and any other forum with northern members unable to attend JAE perhaps?) I'm going to start a thread to gauge interest in this ans see what other members think... JAE or a TOC camping expedition.

Not really the same as the Billing-EOE announcement though.... a central location moving to a central location

As I said, to me its indifferent as I'm central to anything and everything (I actually live about 10 miles from the official centre of England ;) ) but I just felt more for those more northerly and was disappointed in the organisers choice in that respect.

Should TOC have a sufficient presence, I'll be on the stand as usual acting like a god forsaken fool as usual. It'll be sad that some people can't make it based on location.

Should TOC have a sufficient presence, I'll happily take charge of the preparation should no one else be willing to do so.

Should TOC not have a sufficient presence there will be little point to a club stand, I refuse to get drunk on my own!

People should go to JAE, its the biggest event of the year, but as we saw last year with a little rain and only 10 or so cars on stand, a little change can put a lot of people off... :(

well im glad a couple fo people have the right attitude to go, fair enough with some people as it is a bugger to get to, i just think for a club like TOC a very good club i would of thought there would be a big effort for everyone to get there.

If people dont wish to travel for the greatest show of the year and are doubting it before it started then what is the point in having meets, Big shows where people dont want to go to, what about the all the other trips you have done in the past, i feel that this club is the not same as it used to be when i first joined.

Jae is a good socialising event for people to go to for everyone to get together now it will just be lil meets where people live and i feel thats just not a car enthusiast

Hardly any are down south and i think for southern people it is good and more southern people will come.

is there just me thinking very drunk people and water equals a very bad mix??

Water shouldnt be a problem, as billing never had any problems.

My concern is the tide times, entering & exiting the island.

i dont camp always book hotels or bed & breakfasts outside the venues,

the nearist would be colchester i guess so i would have to drive so no drink for me.

Then what times would you need to be back for the tides

Also the traffic leaving the event would be mental as everyone would have to leave at same time

We won't be there because we don't WANT to come.. it is more the logistics involved in such a trip... more or less a full days traveling (8 hours) A question for those of you who live fairly close... If it was announced it was going to be on Glasgow Green... would you make it?.. please don't say yes because it's easy to say it... think about the distance and expense... not to mention the thought in the back of your mind that you may need to get home urgently if an unexpected situation cropped up.

well then it wouldnt be JAE i know its south but colchester is about an hour away from peterborough, i see where you are coming from as scotland it is a pain but i thought if you could make the effort to get to peterborough then more people from north should make effort to get to colchester, nearer the time you know you will like to come

I drove to Southampton for a night out last year ! Had a smashing time too - Glad I went !

Our trip to TOTB last year was long enough.

That's the one I'd miss given a choice of the two ! AND TOTB is just a 1 day thing, so it's there and straight back again. For such a dull event with overpriced entry and food it certainly seems to have some pulling power !

It's not very far.... for those who live in Essex!

Congrats to those in the South East who only have a short journey! Before JAE was "central" for most and fair with it... now it's not and personally I find that very disappointing....

Just Around Essex

Well we can't complain, seeing as we are in the same county but down South when Mersea Island/Colchester is "oop North" in the County. I work with colleagues who do an 80 mile round trip daily, a few even come in from Ipswich!

From here to Peterborough was a tad under 100 miles, Colchester is half that for us. It's a shame that the move had to be so different, but then they could've moved it a bit further North and then the Southerners would be moaning that it's too far so you really can't please everyone unless the location was in a 5 mile radius of where it used to be  .

nearer the time you know you will like to come

Never mind nearer the time.. I know right now I want to go.

I have really enjoyed the previous years that I've been to... I also know it's only an hour down the road from Peterbourgh, but there is a lot more to consider than "just an extra hour", it was hard enough to make the decision to travel to Peterbourgh. I have 3 children to consider, 2 of them would have been coming with us (probably), and one would be staying at home, this in itself is a risk... not because we can't trust him, I know I can trust him 100%.. but because he is my kid and I don't really want to be any further away from him than is necessary.

A line has to be drawn somewhere when traveling to any meet and I feel that traveling to Colchester would crossing that line, it's just too far to be worthwhile, If the Organisation stuck to what they said (on numerous occasions) by keeping JAE in a central location there would be a problem and this thread wouldn't exist.

I see your point though, i suppose it was either further north or further south either way would of been a problem for anyone, shame really but its 3 years at this venue too so whats going to happen to you all

like ive just put up there -

Also extending the event is all good and proper but think about the extra cost, if you are driving a car doing an 100 miles each way, at (take an average across jap cars) 20-25 mpg, you are looking at about 50 quid extra for the weekend. Then by saying "but we are making the weekend longer", meaning more holiday days (which are precious anyway) plus food drink etc for an extra day and then having it on one of the busiest weekends for travelling in the year!!!!

its an extra £50 for a weekend away, thats nothing when you have all these months to plan and save! part of the fun is driving there anyway
