  1. Good point. In the end pay monkeys... get peanuts. Pay top dollar....get Rolls Royce. I bought cheap tyres, remoulds, and second hand tyres etc as a student, but after buying my first set of Kelly Tyres (remember them!) at £10 for a textile radial, I saw the light. Medium to top makes always work out cheaper in the long run. No one has yet mentioned safety. Cheap tyres are very safe, but top tyres are very, very, safe.

  4. If you are serious about tuning your car have a chat with theses people , Noble Motor sport of Chesterfield . Sorry can't seem to post a link to site for some reason, I can vouch for them a very good firm who are only too willing to help and will not talk you into doing any thing that will cost you money for no return. I got another 25bhp out of my 2LT Avensis TSpirit but the cost was over £500 and to get more you are talking about another £2500 on top of that for nothing more than another another 20bhp. To get the full amount of power that can be coaxed out of these engines while still having a usable and reliable engine you need a turbo fitted, the cost is roughly £5000 then the suspension needs upgrading then a different and better exhaust system then uprated brakes, not cheap. Then you have to tell the insurance company, it's cheaper to sell your car and buy a BMW 530D.

  5. I too have the 2010 2l. I achieve slightly better for day to day driving (35mpg?) and upto 45 with really careful motorway driving. I find any cruising at 60+ has a substantial impact. Having had this since new after a 2006 TSpirit 2.2l I was disappointed that is for sure. I would say I lost 10mpg. Maybe the extra weight of the panoramic roof and the spare tyre I added I part of the issue? I too have a number of journeys I have put into excel for both cars. I see little difference in where I buy the fuel but I nicer have tried the premium brands. Happy to share my excel file if it helps anyone - not got it to hand currently so th figures above are off memory. Finally i find the fuel guage itself poor underreporting tank level / range left by 50-100 miles (upto 20%!) but one positive point - I agree the mpg gauge I fairly accurate unlike my 06 Verso.

  6. Wee update on this, I was chatting with our dealer yesterday while the iQ was in for a 30,000 mile service & she says they've not been told anything official themselves yet. We are even thinking of trading the car up to a new iQ2 while we still could if they were officialy stopping taking orders, because here's a lovely purple iQ2 in the showroom at the moment, but it's still not clear what's happening they were saying :-/

  7. Oh yeah, I remember your previous post now about the rusting discs. My discs are not really scored but the rear ones have a slight ridge around the outside and the inside of the braking area. I could just fit new pads and let them rub the ridge off but as I have a lathe in the garage I thought I'd whip the discs off, skim the ridges off, give them a good clean up and spray them silver before refitting with new pads. I'll take some pictures as I do the job but it will probably be in the summer sometime. Raining here again now. :( Craig.

  8. No Craig I'm not looking to replace them yet, but I probably will have to if we have a bad winter this year. You may remember I live on a fairly steep hill that's also narrow. The problem is the salted road gets wet and the trucks splash saline in to my wheels and it rusts the hell out of my discs. I have found some wheel covers with the help of you Guys, but I bet they will get stolen within a few hours of me fitting them! I was just looking at prices and availability. Actually it's not that great, EBC seem to be the only after market discs on offer and they are the same as standard OEM ones, none of the specials seem to fit the IQ. There are Chinese one about, but................ I do have a feeling the Aygo may have the same discs, but I need to find out from somewhere, if they are the same as another Toyota model, some better made discs shoud be available. Why do you need a skim Craig? are they rusty, or just scored?

  9. As far as I know the brakes are the same on the 1.0 and the 1.33 models and they haven't changed since the iQ was released. There is no mention of different types in the workshop manual except some models did have drum rear drakes. Not in the UK though I believe. I asume you're looking to replace them, how many miles has the car done? Just curious as I'm going to be servicing the brakes soon on my car with a light skim of the discs and new pads. Craig.

  10. It's common for this part to come loose. I need to stick mine back to the glass. I thought £280 was a lot for the VED so I won't be complaining again! Here is a link to a diagram but not sure if the part number you require is on there. http://www.japan-parts.eu/toyota/eu/2002/rav4/aca21r-awmnkw/2_662220_010_/body/5553_cowl-panel-windshield-glass

  11. I had the same problem on our 3-dr but fortunately the missing piece had dropped down under the trailing edge of the bonnet so I was able to retrieve it and secure it with EvoStick. I suggest that if you simply send the above photo to Kingo he'll know exactly what part he needs to order for you. Good luck.

  13. Had to post this,as i read all the complaints about the mmt gearbox??? I wonder how many people are at fault here and not the actual gearbox? Do people drive it like this information tells you it should be driven??? Heres the Definative driving method for the Multimode Manual Gearbox!! Differences from an automatic car[edit]A Multimode manual car has a clutch instead of a torque converter. As such, gear changes are noticeable, and the car rolls backwards when on an up-sloping incline. Creeping: A Multimode Manual Car creeps forward when the brake pedal is released and accelerator is not depressed, like an automatic car. This is achieved via partially engaging and slipping the clutch.Moving off from an incline: A MMT car rolls backwards when on an up-sloping incline, unlike an automatic car. To move off from an up-slopping incline, apply handbrake before depressing the accelerator slightly. Do not hold the car on an incline by depressing the accelerator pedal, as the slipping clutch will overheat and lead to clutch damage.Parking: Unlike an automatic car, the P gear is absent in a MMT car. The car should be parked in the following fashion. In an up-slopping incline, put the gear to M1, or E, apply handbrake, and switch off the engine. In a down-slopping incline, put the gear to R, apply handbrake, and switch off the engine. On level ground, put the gear to R, apply handbrake, and switch off the engine. R or E/M1 substitute the P function in a full automatic.Moving off from Park: The engine can only be started with the gear in N. To start, switch on the car to ON position (this releases the gear lock), depress brake pedal, put the gear to N (from either R or E/M1), and switch on the engine.L/1 and 2 gears in a full automatic: The MMT does not provide L/1 and 2 gears as in a full automatic. One action of the MMT system is that it detects the gradient of the slope that the car is situated in. On a down-slopping incline and if the brake pedal is depressed, it automatically selects a lower gear to produce engine brake, which has the equivalent effect of L and 2 gears in a full automatic. L and 2 can also be substituted with E1 and E2 (not available in Aygo) or M1 and M2 gears in a MMT car. To select E1 or E2, put the gear to E, and use + and - pedal flaps on the steering wheel to override the computer selection. E will change to E1/E2/E3/E4/E5/E6, depending on the gear selected. Downshift to E1 or E2 as appropriate to simulate L and 2 gears in a full automatic. To select M1 or M2, put the gear to M, and use M- gear to downshift the gear to M1 or M2.Kick-down: In E mode, the kick-down function in a full automatic can be similarly activated in an MMT car. Additionally, the kick-down function can be manually activated using the - pedal flap on the steering wheel in E mode. This overrides the computer setting and E changes to E1/E2/E3/E4/E5/E6. To stop the manual override under E mode, pull and hold the + flap on the steering wheel, until the E1/E2/E3/E4/E5/E6 changes back to E. Alternatively, wait for the next computer activated gear change.Reverse: The car reverses as in an automatic car. To reverse, depress brake pedal, and change the gear to R. Gradually lift off the brake pedal to allow the car to creep backwards. On a down-slopping incline, the creep function, simulated using the slipping clutch, is not sufficient to prevent the car from rolling forward. In this case, the car must not be held still using the accelerator pedal, as the excessive clutch slipping will lead to clutch damage. Handbrake should be instead applied, and the accelerator pedal should be depress slightly.Gear change: The gear change in MMT is noticeable, unlike in a full automatic car. Under E gear, the car will automatically change the gear depending on speed and gradientinformation. It is recommended that the accelerator pedal should be momentarily lifted off during gear change. A constant throttle can also be maintained on the accelerator, and gear change can still occur, although the car will feel noticeably more jerky during gear change than in a full automatic.

  14. Hi Every Body My Name is Walid Refay and i am from Egypt and i Bought Toyota Corolla 2009 with MMT and this car is assembled in South Africa and Toyota sold 7500 cars over two years 2008 & 2009 in Egypt and we here faced many of MMT problems and N error and i mean it many many times but after many owners here in Egypt met together and decided to complain in consumers protection corp. in Egypt and start meetings with Toyota Egypt and they tried to meet us individually but we refused and after many meetings, Consumers protection Corp forced Toyota Egypt to change the Clutch group and all parts with high quality stuff especially we found out that all the clutch group was made in South Africa and the new clutch will be mad in Japan and they advised that this high quality clutch is 10 times life of the old one and also they will give us more 3 years warrant on new clutch after installed and as a matter of fact that the car price is dramatically going down as Toyota announced in News paper that Toyota Corolla have some problems in MMT and this MMT components was not suitable to Egyptian market and they decided to change 7500 clutch with high quality one, so we decided to go to courts to get compensation for financial loss and if any one interesting to know more about our case, please contact me at wrefay@hotmail.com or on our forum www.nilemotors.com Thanks and have a nice day. 15. Hi Paulu The standard wheel/tyre combo does look too small. You can fit 31x10.5s on with no lift which fills the rear arch out a bit better. One of the members Adam (Intimidator) on the Hilux Pickup Owners club is building and selling Polar Replicas running 33's as standard so he'd be a good contact in the first instance. Here's a pic of Adams own one at Abingdon 4x4 recently. Hope that helps.
