  1. Newcastle is only 40 minutes further up the A19 than Middlesbrough. I think you're more than likely better taking a day off and biting the bullet. Save all the messing about with ebay.. A real conundrum.

  2. What reliability issues have you had out of interest? My problem turned into a bit of a saga, it was the 12 volt battery going flat, it happened to me twice, both times I had to call out the AA to get me going, the first time for any car I've ever owned in over 40 years of driving. After the second time my brand new car was in the dealers for 4 weeks while they investigated it, they eventually found out it was a software problem that caused the battery to drain, the software has now been altered and all early Auris Hybrids have had a ECU flash upgrade to sort it out, been fine since then. Credit where credits due, the dealers was eventually very good, but I had to contact both the dealers MD, and Toyota UK to get them to take me seriously.

  3. Depends what is behind the various grill bits. Have a look over on Prius chat (when it is working!). There will be a PIP section where you should be able to find PIP grill blocking information.

  4. I would like to share a problem I had yesterday. Had been out for afternoon and on dropping someone off, I started engine and tried to engage Drive with no success. The gear selector stick went through PRND without illuminating dash gear indicator and no movement. Called RAC and he found selector cable had broken where it was attached to auto gearbox selector arm. I held foot brake pedal down while he manually selected Drive on the gearbox and shut bonnet allowing me to drive home. Rang Toyota who wanted £193 for replacement cable and a breaker wanted £115 for used one! I took off the broken cable connection to the gearbox selector arm and found that the pivot had corroded that much that the nylon/plastic 'banjo' cable end had fractured allowing the retaining end of the cable to pull out - see photos for better understanding. I stripped the pivot down, cleaned all the rust off and managed to close the nylon/plastic 'banjo' and hold it together with a special metal washer that I made, and re-assembled it with grease and it works perfectly. I have added a cable-tie just to ensure that if it did go again the cable-tie would get me home. The gearbox selector arm hardly needs any effort to engage PRND so cable joint should suffice. I would recommend all owners with similar designed selector cables to give them a good oiling every now and again to save them at least £193! I did question the Toyota Guy about the excessive cost of what is effectively a two ended cable and he said it was the VAT that always impacts on the price, not Toyotas fault...............

  5. Had same issues - but did get MIL light on and codes suggested SCV valves. Replaced and now spot on - no issues starting when hot or going into limp mode.

  6. If you have a 2010 t4 from new then you'll have only paid about £19,500 for it. As t4's of that vintage are routinely going for £10k, £11k, or more, then I don't think that's too bad for a 4 year old car. Now if you'd paid £24k as is required today for these rattle buckets, then yes, that's way too much for what you get.

  7. Hi ronni, This could be an scv problem but could also be many other things as well. I would hang on until you get your code reader and retrieve any stored codes, it will give you a lot better idea as to what's going on. regards colin

    Mpg

If you really want to be scientific and compare mpg, the following are important: 1. Fuel consumption falls in summer as engines become more efficient, and rises in winter. So mpg figures from April - September will be higher than from October to March. 2. Short journeys - under 7-10 miles use more fuel. Journeys under 2 miles, even more. Cold engines use more fuel 3. Traffic jams use more fuel. 4. Stop/start driving uses more fuel. 5. Speeds over 70mph use more fuel 6. Heavy braking uses more fuel. 7. Poor driving styles use more fuel. 8. Most in car fuel consumption figures are pants. You must - repeat MUST - use Fuelly or a recording of miles and fuel over 1,000s of miles to get accurate figures. Any instant figures, or figures over a few hundred miles are pants. 9. Driving styles affect fuel consumption. See also parking. And acceleration. 10. Tyre pressures affect fuel consumption. Unless you check regularly and use recommended pressures and an accurate guage - your figures are pants. 11. Hills affect fuel consumption. Fuel used is far higher than on the flat. ,Yes: I am a boring old #### and log all my miles, etc. And I average 42mpg in a 1.4Jazz mainly urban driving. (and can prove it.. Fuelly and written records. So anything from 35 - 50 mpg is possible depending on the above. And unless you check each of the above, comparisons are meaningless.

  10. Change the gasket on the fuel filler cap, then reset the ecu by disconnecting the battery neg for 20mins or so ... this MAY be the cheapest ever fix for p0093 you will ever come across. Pete.
